Liberty vs Storm Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

With Jonquel Jones set to miss time, the Liberty will be compromised on defense. Meanwhile, Sabrina Ionescu will pick up the slack and be aggressive from the perimeter against the Storm, so we're looking at the Over.

Do not overstate the New York Liberty’s demise. They are a stellar 10-2, and should remain among the top four in the WNBA standings at the absolute worst, even without Jonquel Jones.

But losing Jones for more than a month will make life much more difficult, beginning tonight against the Seattle Storm.

Jones’ impact will be more noticeable defensively, and thus my Liberty vs. Storm predictions and WNBA picks like the Over ahead of this 7 p.m. ET tip on Sunday, June 22.

Liberty vs Storm predictions

My Liberty vs Storm best bet: Over 163.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

Jonquel Jones has long been one of the WNBA’s best rebounders. As a result, the New York Liberty have not sought other strong rebounders.

Instead, perimeter players like Natasha Cloud, Leonie Fiebich, and Marine Johannes help set up their big three of Jones, Breanna Stewart, and Sabrina Ionescu.

Ruh roh. Jones will miss the foreseeable future after spraining her right ankle for a second time this season, and New York’s defense will show weakness as a result.

Jones collects 33.8% of available defensive rebounds when she is on the court. The next highest number from the Liberty rotation is Stewart at 15.5%, followed by Fiebich and Cloud at 12.5% and 12.1%, respectively.

Every defensive rebound that Jones would usually collect that instead turns into a Seattle Storm offensive board tonight will effectively be a blown defensive stop. While that is not a Storm strength, ranking No. 11 in the WNBA in offensive rebound rate, realize defensive rebounding was already a New York weakness, ranking No. 12 even with Jones available.

The Liberty should still score tonight, but at this point, they will need to, because their defense is worse without Jones.

Liberty vs Storm same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 163,5

Neneka Ogwumike Over 15.5 points

Sabrina Ionescu 4+ threes

Looking at Seattle’s rotation, Nneka Ogwumike is best positioned to take advantage of a few offensive rebound opportunities in Jones’ absence. She grabs 6.9% of available offensive rebounds when on the floor, No. 2 in the Storm rotation behind only Ezi Magbegor, who is not included on the points prop odds board.

Turn one or two of those added chances into putbacks, and Ogwumike clears this prop with ease.

Adding a long-range outburst from Ionescu makes sense on two fronts. First of all, the former Oregon Duck should enjoy putting on a show back in the Pacific Northwest.

Secondly, she has hit at least four 3-pointers in five of her last eight games, not surprising given she has taken 9.5 shots from deep per game in that stretch. As long as Ionescu is shooting that often, taking aggressive plays on her 3-pointers is logical.

He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
