McGregor vs Holloway props for UFC 329
Holloway moneyline (-215 at Bet99)
Conor McGregor was already past his prime before his five-year layoff, going 1-3 over his last four fights and losing back-to-back matchups with Dustin Poirier, a former victim who presented a favorable matchup for the rusty Irishman.
In those bouts, McGregor was outclassed and stopped with only flashes of his former brilliance before being wiped out by an active and effective fighter.
This should be more of the same despite former featherweight champion Max Holloway making the climb to welterweight. Holloway's pace has broken far better-conditioned fighters than this version of McGregor.
We don’t know how much McGregor has left in the tank, but we do know Holloway can still deliver, and I’m confident he’ll ruin McGregor’s return.
Over 2.5 rounds (-110 at Bet99)
Holloway has only been stopped once in his professional career, and that came against a younger, stylistically superior opponent in Ilia Topuria. McGregor couldn't finish Holloway when they first met, and his cardio has deteriorated noticeably throughout his UFC career.
The consensus opinion is that McGregor has to put Holloway away early, and I have a hard time seeing him walk into the Octagon with five years of rust and stop one of the most durable strikers in MMA history.
Holloway will likely fight at a measured pace to draw out McGregor’s stamina for a round or two before picking up the pace later in the fight.
Holloway to win in Round 3 (+675 at Bet99)
McGregor has lost three of his last four fights that extended beyond the opening round, all by stoppage. McGregor will fade after the first round, and Holloway will circle him, increase his output, and pile on the strikes as the former two-division champion begins to sputter.
A combination of Holloway’s relentless pressure and McGregor’s exhaustion will result in the fight becoming extremely one-sided. Holloway should even the score and one-up his generational rival, just as Poirier did by stopping McGregor.
The sweet spot is the third round, which is where I’ll stake a bet at +675.
