For the first time in 14 years, LSU is looking to rebound from a season-opening defeat. After getting nipped by Wisconsin last weekend, the 22nd-ranked Tigers take aim at FCS foe Jacksonville State in their home opener Saturday.

LSU received a solid performance from star running back Leonard Fournette (138 yards on 23 carries) but quarterback Brandon Harris threw a couple of interceptions and the offense generally struggled for most of the night. "We didn't move the football like we're capable of," coach Les Miles said to reporters after his team held the ball for just 23 minutes and went a combined 2-of-11 on third and fourth downs. That could mean even a heavier workload for Fournette, who has 16 career 100-yard rushing games, including four in a row dating to last season. Jacksonville State topped Division II opponent North Alabama behind four rushing scores in its season opener.

ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE (1-0): The Gamecocks nearly beat Auburn - they lost in overtime - last season and are ranked fifth in the FCS poll. Said senior quarterback Eli Jenkins of the LSU matchup: "It gives us a chance to prove that we can play against anyone and play in front of more folks that would we normally not play in front of with the big crowds. It gives us a chance to show what we got and a great opportunity to play our best football." Jenkins will likely depend on ex-Auburn running back Roc Thomas, who ran for three touchdowns last weekend.

ABOUT LSU (0-1): Three Tigers' defenders who are looking for a strong encore performance are Davon Godchaux (nine tackles), Tre'Davious White (fumble recovery, pick-six) and Arden Key (two sacks). The LSU defense will be a key - as will the improved play of Harris - as the Tigers aim to improve to 29-4 following a loss during the Miles era. LSU is 10-0 all-time against FCS opponents, having outscored those teams 288-64 during Miles' seven FCS wins as Tigers coach.

EXTRA POINTS

1. LSU has suspended OL Josh Boutte for Saturday's contest following a late hit in the Wisconsin game.

2. This is the first meeting between the schools.

3. The Tigers have won 45 straight home nonconference games.

PREDICTION: LSU 33, Jacksonville State 12
