Last Meeting ( Nov 13, 2010 ) Oklahoma State 33, Texas 16

THE STORY:
No. 21 Texas looks to rebound from its first loss when it hosts No. 7 Oklahoma State. Texas, which is playing its second consecutive top-10 opponent, had five turnovers — three returned for touchdowns — in last week’s 55-17 loss to Oklahoma. It was the Longhorns’ worst loss since a 65-13 defeat to Oklahoma in 2003. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State is coming off its best offensive performance since 1973. The Cowboys tied a school record with 35 first-quarter points in their 70-28 victory over Kansas. Texas leads the all-time series 22-3 but Oklahoma State won 33-16 in 2010 to snap a 12-game skid in the series. The Longhorns have never lost back-to-back games to the Cowboys.

TV: ABC. LINE: Oklahoma State -8.

ABOUT OKLAHOMA STATE (5-0, 2-0 Big 12): Led by quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State has the nation’s top-ranked scoring offense, averaging more than 51 points. Weeden, who has thrown for a touchdown in each of his 18 career starts, threw for 288 yards and five touchdown in last week’s win. Blackmon is averaging 11.6 yards per catch and has six TD receptions for the Cowboys, who have scored more than 55 points three times. Oklahoma State’s defense, which allows more than 27 points, has shown improvement by forcing eight turnovers in the last two games, including four against the Jayhawks.

ABOUT TEXAS (4-1, 1-1 Big 12): Texas was overmatched by Oklahoma, and likely will be overmatched again. Quarterbacks Case McCoy and David Ash will have to be better if they hope to keep pace with the Cowboys’ balanced attack. The quarterbacks combined for four turnovers — two fumbles and two interceptions — last week. Jaxon Shipley has been the team’s most productive receiver, catching 25 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns. Prior to giving up 55 points to the Sooners, the Longhorns had only allowed a combined 59 points in their first four games.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Oklahoma State has won seven straight road games, including five straight against Big 12 opponents.

2. Texas holds a 14-2 advantage over the Cowboys in Austin.

3. Oklahoma State has the best record in conference play since 2009 at 14-4.

PREDICTION:
Oklahoma State 42, Texas 27 – Texas isn't capable of keeping up with the Cowboys' high-octane attack.
