Chicago @ Baltimore preview

Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Last Meeting ( Sep 16, 2018 ) Chi. White Sox 4, Baltimore 8

The Baltimore Orioles dropped the first three of their six-game homestand over the weekend to fall to 1-9 in their own stadium. The Orioles will try to turn things around at home when they host the Chicago White Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.

Baltimore had a chance to earn a second home victory on Sunday with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday, but pinch hitter Pedro Severino flied out to right to finish off a 4-3 loss. Orioles pitching is allowing an average of 7.2 runs in the last six games - five losses - and is last in the majors with a total of 149 runs allowed. The White Sox attempted their own comeback on Sunday with three runs in the eighth inning at Detroit but also suffered a 4-3 setback - their third loss in the last four games - to fall to 5-6 on the road. Chicago will try to bounce back on Monday behind left-hander Manny Banuelos while Baltimore's struggling staff turns to righty David Hess.

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox LH Manny Banuelos (1-0, 3.48 ERA) vs. Orioles RH David Hess (1-3, 5.57)

Banuelos is coming out of the bullpen to make the start in place of right-hander Lucas Giolito, who was placed on the injured list with a strained left hamstring. Banuelos, who last started for Atlanta in 2015, was stretched out in the spring and worked at least three innings in each of his last three relief appearances, yielding a total of two runs and five hits across 9 1/3 innings over that span. The 28-year-old struggles with his control at times and issued seven walks over 10 1/3 innings this season.

Hess is trying to bounce back from a poor effort at Tampa Bay on Wednesday, when he was lit up for six runs on eight hits - three homers - in two innings to suffer his third consecutive loss. The 25-year-old served up a total of seven homers in 12 2/3 innings over his last three turns. Hess started at home against the White Sox last season on Sept. 16 and was reached for four runs - three earned - on six hits over 4 1/3 innings while allowing three homers.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Orioles designated RHP Mike Wright for assignment and recalled RHP Gabriel Ynoa on Sunday.

2. White Sox SS Tim Anderson went 1-for-3 with an RBI on Sunday after serving a one-game suspension.

3. Baltimore LF Dwight Smith Jr. is 9-for-25 with nine RBIs in his last six games.

PREDICTION: White Sox 7, Orioles 6

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
