Milwaukee @ Arizona preview

Last Meeting ( Jul 18, 2011 ) Milwaukee 0, Arizona 3
THE STORY: The good news for the Milwaukee Brewers is that they’re midway through their season-long 11-game road trip. The bad news is they still haven’t found a way to win away from Miller Park. The Brewers look to improve their 18-32 road record on Tuesday when they face the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have won three of four to open the second half.
TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, FS Wisconsin, FS Arizona
PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Yovani Gallardo (10-6, 4.08 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Barry Enright (1-3, 6.49 ERA)
Gallardo gave up six runs on 11 hits in four innings last Thursday at Colorado, but he is 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA in four career starts against Arizona. The Brewers are 7-1 in Gallardo’s last eight starts against a team with a winning record.
Enright is making his first start since being recalled last week to replace Zach Duke in the rotation. He was 8-2 with a 4.29 ERA in 12 starts for Triple-A Reno. He was demoted after giving up six run over five innings to Colorado on May 4.
ABOUT THE BREWERS (51-46): With Monday’s 3-0 loss, the Brewers have been shutout nine times on the road and not once at home. Milwaukee’s offense averages 3.5 runs on the road compared to 5.25 at home, which helps explain its 33-14 home record and dismal 18-32 road record. Of course, playing without left fielder Ryan Braun didn’t help matters on Monday. Braun was out of the Brewers’ starting lineup for the 10th time in 13 games with a leg injury, and the team may have to put him on the disabled list if he’s unable to play Tuesday. Shaun Marcum left Sunday’s game with a neck strain, but he says he’ll be ready for his next start Friday in San Francisco. With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Brewers are seeking help at third base and shortstop, where Yuniesky Betancourt is batting .239 through 89 games. Names such Jamey Carroll, Wilson Betemit and Ty Wigginton have been mentioned, but nothing appears imminent.
ABOUT THE DIAMONDBACKS (52-44): Shortstop Stephen Drew was given Monday off after going 4-for-29 in his past eight games. Willie Bloomquist started in place of Drew and went 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot. While Drew has struggled to start the second half, infielder Ryan Roberts continues to surprise. He blasted his career-high 13th home run on Monday, and he’s hit safely in seven of his last eight games. One of manager Kirk Gibson’s favorites, Roberts has homered in two straight games and three of his past five. Closer J.J. Putz will throw on the side Tuesday as he recovers slowly from the right elbow tendinitis that landed him on the disabled list June 29. It will be interesting to see how the Diamondbacks handle the upcoming trade deadline. The team has a number of promising minor league pitchers – including Jarrod Parker, Tyler Skaggs and David Holmberg – but general manager Kevin Towers isn’t likely to move any of them unless he can get a front-line starting pitcher in return.
FINAL PITCH: The Brewers are 12-4 in their last 16 during the second game of a series.
