San Francisco @ Seattle preview

T-Mobile Park

Last Meeting ( Jun 16, 2012 ) San Francisco 4, Seattle 7

The Seattle Mariners snapped their six-game winning streak at the expense of San Francisco ace Tim Lincecum on Saturday night, and now they hope to get their own Cy Young Award winner turned around when they face the Giants in the rubber game of the series. Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez is only 1-4 in his last six starts and has surrendered a total of seven home runs while permitting double-digit hits three times during that stretch.

Seattle finally got its offense going after scoring only 14 runs in the first seven games of its homestand, but it will be facing a stern test in Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner on Sunday. Jesus Montero and Casper Wells homered and Brendan Ryan had two hits, including a two-run single that snapped an 0-for-20 drought. Ryan Theriot had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Giants, who remained four games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, CSBA (San Francisco), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (8-4, 3.08 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Felix Hernandez (4-5, 3.70 ERA)

Bumgarner has won his last three starts and is coming off a stellar effort last time out, striking out a season-high 12 and giving up two runs in 7 2/3 innings in a victory over Houston. He also hit his first career homer in the game. Bumgarner has reached double digits in strikeouts in three of his last five starts, but he has struggled on the road with a 3-3 record and 3.89 ERA this season.

Hernandez turned in another ragged performance in his last start, yielding five runs on nine hits in six innings to the light-hitting San Diego Padres. Hernandez is winless in his last three starts, surrendering 14 runs on 24 hits in 16 innings. Fernandez has won both his career starts against the Giants, but he hasn't faced them since May 2009.

WALK-OFFS:

1. San Francisco is 2-12 when Lincecum starts this season and 3-17 in his last 20 starts dating to last year.

2. Mariners RF Ichiro Suzuki needs one hit to reach 2,500 in the majors.

3. Seattle has won 10 of the last 13 meetings between the teams.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
