The Kansas City Royals head to Comerica Park tonight for the beginning of a three-game set with the Detroit Tigers.

Casey Mize has been struggling lately, and I’m expecting that trend to continue in the series opener.

Royals vs Tigers prediction

Royals vs Tigers best bet: Casey Mize Over 2.5 earned runs (+120)

Casey Mize was named an All-Star this season and has served as one of Detroit Tigers best arms behind reigning Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal. However, he’s hit a lull as of late. The right-hander had an ERA over six in July, and that’s barely improved in August.

Across three starts, Mize owns a 4.67 ERA this month. While his ERA still sits at 3.63 on the year, he’s allowed Over 2.5 earned runs in two of his previous three outings. Mize surrendered four earned runs last time out against the Los Angeles Angels.

At home, Mize’s ERA is 3.48. Respectable, but he also gave up three earned runs earlier this season when he faced the Kansas City Royals. The 28-year-old is struggling to find his best right now, and while I won’t say he’s going to get tagged for a ton of runs, Detroit will need to give him some run support here.

Royals vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

We’re going to feed off my best bet and focus on two Royals hitters for my SGP. Salvador Perez is 13-for-30 lifetime against Mize. He’s absolutely torn the cover off the baseball when the righty is on the hill.

Perez has also cashed the Over in hits in three consecutive games. He finished 2-for-4 in the finale against the Texas Rangers on Thursday night and is hitting .247 on the year.

As for Bobby Witt Jr, we all know what he’s about. Witt Jr is hitting .295 with 18 home runs this season. He’s batting .338 in August and has cashed the Over in hits in back-to-back games.

The shortstop has five hits across his last two contests. He’s also had boatloads of success against Mize, going 6-for-14 with a pair of round-trippers. Witt Jr will keep it rolling tonight.
