HR picks for August 22

Cody Bellinger (+400 at DraftKings)

The New York Yankees face Brayan Bello of the Boston Red Sox tonight, looking to bounce back from a loss in the series opener on Thursday. The short porch in right field in the Bronx is always a benefit to left-handed hitters, just like Cody Bellinger.

The slugger has now smacked 24 home runs on the season while hitting .272. He’s gone deep three times in his last six games and has done the majority of his power damage at Yankee Stadium, leaving the yard 16 times.

Belli has an impressive track record against Bello, too. He’s 3-for-5 lifetime with a pair of round-trippers. Also, 17 of his bombs are off right-handed hurlers.

Andrew McCutchen (+550 at DraftKings)

Andrew McCutchen may be getting up there in age, but he’s still got pop in his bat from time to time. The veteran has 11 home runs this year.

While that’s not a number that will make anyone jump out of their seat, Cutch heads into tonight’s clash with a solid track record against Colorado Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela.

He’s 5-for-16 in his career against him with two homers. Senzatela is also having a terrible campaign, compiling a 7.00 ERA and giving up 19 long balls in just 23 appearances. McCutchen has nine homers off righties and three bombs across the last month.

Sure, it’s not too often nowadays he goes deep, but with a home run prone arm on the hill who has had trouble versus McCutchen in the past, this pick is worth a look.

Freddie Freeman (+350 at DraftKings)

The Los Angeles Dodgers begin an important series with the San Diego Padres tonight, and it’s a battle on the mound with Blake Snell facing Yu Darvish.

In the past, Freddie Freeman has raked against Darvish, going 12-for-45 with four home runs. He knows what the right-hander is all about.

Freeman has slugged 16 bombs this year and just went yard on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies. He swings it well against righties and lefties, but the HR damage has came mostly versus right-handers, cracking 12 round-trippers.

Darvish has made just eight starts since returning from the IL and he’s surrendered six home runs. Freeman could get to him in the series opener.
