Atlanta @ San Francisco preview

AT&T Park

Last Meeting ( May 28, 2015 ) Atlanta 0, San Francisco 7

Tim Hudson faces his former team for the first time since joining San Francisco on Friday as the Giants host the Atlanta Braves, who have opened their 10-game road trip with a 1-3 mark. Hudson pitched nine seasons for the Braves before signing with the Giants, who have outscored their opponents 20-2 during their five-game home winning streak.

The Giants' dominance at AT&T Park features eight shutouts in their last 12 home games, including Thursday’s 7-0 series-opening victory. Right fielder Hunter Pence has sparked the Giants’ offense since returning from the disabled list on May 16 and first baseman Brandon Belt has rebounded from a slow start by going 19-for-53 with six home runs and 14 RBI over his last 13 games. Atlanta is hoping for a similar resurgence after being held to three runs or fewer in nine of its last 10 games. First baseman Freddie Freeman has cooled off considerably with 10 hits in his last 54 at-bats and shortstop Andrelton Simmons is 13-for-66 over his last 17 games.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, Fox Sports South (Atlanta), NBC Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Mike Foltynewicz (3-1, 4.25 ERA) vs. Giants RH Tim Hudson (2-4, 5.04)

Foltynewicz turned in the longest outing of his young career last Sunday as he struck out seven for the fourth consecutive start and limited Tampa Bay to one run and three hits over 7 2/3 innings. “He was dominating really the whole game,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez told MLB.com. “It’s a good start to build on for the next one.” The 23-year-old owns a 30-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio over five starts covering 29 2/3 innings.

Hudson is looking to bounce back after being victimized last Sunday at Coors Field, where he allowed a season-high eight runs over 3 2/3 innings in an 11-2 loss to Colorado. Cameron Maybin is 10-for-25 with one home run against the 17-year veteran, who leads all active pitchers with 216 career major league victories. Hudson, who left Atlanta after the 2013 season via free agency, was 113-72 while pitching for the Braves from 2005-13.

WALK-OFFS

1. Atlanta has lost 10 of the last 13 meetings against San Francisco, including six of the last seven at AT&T Park.

2. San Francisco SS Brandon Crawford is 20-for-52 with 15 RBI in his last 13 games.

3. Newly acquired Braves 3B Juan Uribe played for the Giants from 2009-2010.

PREDICTION: Braves 5, Giants 4

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
