Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees Box Score on Aug 19, 2018

Greg Bird capped a six-run first inning with his second career grand slam as the New York Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 10-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees lost shortstop Didi Gregorius to a bruised left heel that required further imaging at nearby Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. There is a chance he could end up on the disabled list, manager Aaron Boone said postgame.

Gregorius was injured when he hit a first-inning infield RBI single that gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead. As he touched the first base bag, he collided with first baseman Kendry Morales, and Gregorius fell down.

Gregorius initially stayed in the game but was lifted after the bottom of the second.

Two batters after Gregorius singled, Bird hammered a 2-1 pitch from Ryan Borucki (2-3) into the second deck in right field, and the Yankees were on their way to an easy win. Bird's grand slam was the fifth by the Yankees this season, and it marked the first time since 1998 that the first six Yankees batters of a game scored.

Rookie Miguel Andujar drove in two runs with an RBI single in the first and an RBI groundout in the sixth, when the Yankees added four runs.

Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI single in the sixth as the Yankees beat the Blue Jays for the 12th time in 16 meetings.

Ronald Torreyes replaced Gregorius and had three hits. He scored in the sixth on a two-run single by Kyle Higashioka.

Higashioka's hit occurred after Toronto manager John Gibbons was ejected by first base umpire Jansen Visconti.

Bird hit into a grounder to Morales, who threw home for the force. Catcher Danny Jansen threw back to first in an attempt to get the double play. When Bird was ruled safe, Gibbons raced out to argue and was promptly ejected for the sixth time this year.

Gibbons' ejection was part of another frustrating day in New York for the Blue Jays, who dropped their fourth straight and 10th in 14 games. On Sunday, the Blue Jays did little off former teammate J.A. Happ (14-6).

Before Gibbons was ejected, he was seen on the Toronto telecast yelling at Kevin Pillar for getting thrown out trying to steal third in the for the final out of the sixth with the Yankees up 6-2.

Facing his former team for the first time since the July 26 trade, Happ allowed two runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings while winning his fourth straight start. He struck out eight, walked one and threw 103 pitches.

Borucki and was tagged for six runs on four hits while only recording two outs.

Randal Grichuk hit his 17th homer three batters into the game, and Morales hit his 14th in the sixth as the Blue Jays were swept by the Yankees for the first time in more than four years.
