Man City scored their first goal inside five minutes and held a two-goal lead at halftime when they took on Burnley on Opening Day. Find out why we expect Erling Haaland's team to dictate the pace yet again when they square off against Sevilla.

Manchester City vs Sevilla picks and predictions

The UEFA Super Cup may be down the pecking order of importance behind domestic leagues and continental cups, but it’s still silverware, and clubs of this stature will always look to win more of that.

I’d love to be writing this and telling you that I’ve crunched the numbers and I can see an upset on the cards but unfortunately, I can’t. There’s a reason that Man City won a treble last year, as they’re the best team on the planet and have all the tools to continue winning for a long time.

There had been questions over how Man City would start the season and whether they’d be complacent following that Champions League win in Turkey. Unfortunately for Sevilla, it was noticeable how and how well they performed against Burnley during their 3-0 victory on opening day.

This Sevilla team only finished 12th in La Liga last year but managed to win the Europa League in Budapest, having beaten Roma in an ill-disciplined game. Time and again, we’ve seen Los Palanganas taste success in Europe, often against stronger and more expensively assembled teams. Over the past decade, they’ve arguably been the best team at navigating European competitions, winning the Europa League five times over the course of the past 10 seasons.

That said, Sevilla they lost their La Liga opener 2-1 to Valencia and got Loic Bade sent off late. Bade will be back as the suspension won’t kick in for this game, but his central defensive partner Tangy Nianzou will be missing due to injury. That should be a concern against a team with Erling Haaland up front.

Despite Sevilla’s European pedigree, it can’t be denied that Man City are a different beast. Even with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva missing, it won’t slow them down. They have huge strength in depth and have the ability to pick Sevilla apart in a manner of ways.

I’m expecting Pep Guardiola’s team to start this game in Athens with real intensity and put up an early lead, before potentially resting some players later on in the match. At +100, I’ll be backing City -1 on the spread.

My best bet: Manchester City -1 (+100 at bet365)

Manchester City vs Sevilla same-game parlay

Man City to win by two goals or more

Man City to be winning at halftime

Erling Haaland to score

As mentioned above, we’re taking Man City -1 on the spread. We saw City bag three goals in the Premier League curtain raiser on Friday and they looked clinical on offense. As soon as that first whistle sounded, City were at full intensity and putting Burnley under serious pressure.

For my second leg of this SGP, I’m backing Man City to be winning at halftime, and I'll finish it off by taking Erling Haaland to score anytime.

The Norwegian is the best goalscorer in the world and can rip defenses apart with his intelligent runs and incredible burst of acceleration. We saw Haaland score a brace against Burnley last week, and I’m confident in him continuing his great start to the season by finding the back of the net on Wednesday.

Making it even more enticing is that bet365 is offering a 25% profit boost for one parlay on this game — so if you haven't used it already, that +225 price would actually become +281.

Manchester City vs Sevilla side and Over/Under analysis

Given everything we saw from Man City last season, it’s easy to understand why they’re favorites here. You can get them at -275 to win inside 90 minutes or at -450 if the game goes to added time and/or penalties.

The total of 2.5 is currently juiced to the Over at -138 on the Over, while the Under is listed at +110. For me, those prices are pretty much spot on, so I'd avoid playing a side on the total.
