Red Wings vs Flames Prediction, Picks & Same-Game Parlay for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Red Wings will enter Scotiabank Saddledome with plenty of motivation, and that should be enough to keep Devin Cooley busy between the pipes.

The Calgary Flames have quietly rolled off a 7-2-1 run to begin turning their season around, and they host the Detroit Red Wings with backup Devin Cooley between the pipes at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday, December 10.

I’m expecting Cooley to show up on home ice, and he headlines my top NHL picks and Red Wings vs. Flames predictions tonight.

Red Wings vs Flames prediction

Red Wings vs Flames Best bet: Devin Cooley Over 24.5 saves (-115)

It’s been a solid start to the season for Calgary Flames backup Devin Cooley. He’s posted a high-end .920 save percentage and 2.17 GAA with an impressive 10.73 goals saved above expected across his 11 appearances.

He also stands to be busy Wednesday.

The Detroit Red Wings average the fifth-most shots per game (30.0) and sport an above average 50.9 Corsi For percentage and 52.6% shot share at five-on-five for the campaign.

Additionally, I’m also anticipating Detroit having extra motivation to put pucks on net Wednesday.

The Red Wings have struggled in the possession game through the first three stops of their current six-game road trip with a miserable 39.3 CF% and average shot differential of minus 6.4 per.

Detroit was also just outshoot 39-21 by the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.

So, with Cooley showing off in the Calgary crease, I like him to turn away 25 or more shots against the Red Wings tonight.

Red Wings vs Flames same-game parlay

I’m not anticipating a high-scoring affair at the Scotiabank Saddledome tonight. As highlighted, Cooley has played well this season, and the Flames have scored the third-fewest goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 and  are tied for the fewest per game (2.48).

On the flip side, the Flames have also allowed the 13th-fewest goals per game (2.9) and fourth-fewest expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5.

Turning to the final leg of this same-game parlay, Calgary defenseman Rasmus Andersson has recorded two or more shots in eight of the past 12 games, and his 29 shots and 63 attempts during the stretch both rank third on the Flames.

He’s also logging a massive 24:19 of ice time per night with 2:57 on the No. 1 power-play unit, and as noted this could prove to be a sneaky matchup.
