Rangers vs Devils Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Rivals Entertain in Matinee Clash

New York's quietly reeled in the Devils and is just a point back ahead of their meeting today. The Rangers are riding high but one thing is for sure — there are going to be plenty of goals in New Jersey today.

The New York Rangers have quietly caught up to the New Jersey Devils in the Metropolitan Division standings, sitting one point back of their rivals.

The Rangers have been playing some strong hockey to kick off 2023, currently riding a three-game winning streak, while the Devils have been a tad streaky, but mostly cold as they are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games.

The last time these two teams met, the Rangers erased a 3-1 deficit by scoring two goals in seven seconds and eventually won the game in overtime. The Rangers have found their scoring touch and the Devils are one of the better offensive teams in the league, I am expecting a very high-scoring affair — check out my NHL picks for more.

Rangers vs Devils picks and predictions

The Rangers and Devils have had two battles this season thus far and both of those have seen lots of goals. The Devils took the first meeting 5-3 and the Rangers came out on top the second time 4-3. Both teams know how important this game today is with implications for the Metropolitan standings.

The goaltending matchup hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but it is most likely to be Igor Shesterkin for the Rangers and Vitek Vanecek for the Devils. Both have been excellent this season, but the focus of this game is how well the Rangers have been producing as of late.

They have 14 goals in their last three games combined and the Devils have scored 12 goals in their last three games — both offenses are looking very strong right now.

The Devils’ power play has now converted in back-to-back games and the Rangers’ man advantage has been red hot, converting on six out of their last 12 chances.

Both teams have shown their ability to fill the net in previous games and I expect a fun-filled, offensive matinee. I like the Over.

My best bet: Over 6 (-115 at BetMGM)

Rangers vs Devils moneyline analysis

The Devils have had a really rough stretch over the past month or so. They still look pretty good, but they’re not winning games as consistently as they were at the beginning of the season.

They have been one of the best offensive teams in the league all season and right now they enter this game scoring 3.38 goals per game (seventh in the NHL), but their power play has been a struggle, as they’re ranked 22nd. Their goal-scoring has definitely slowed down over the past month, but they still have a ton of weapons upfront like Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, and Nico Hischier.

The Rangers were quite the opposite of the Devils. The offense wasn’t producing consistently to begin the season, but they have really picked up the goal scoring as of late, and they enter this game averaging 3.25 goals per game. The Rangers have just as many if not more weapons offensively than the Devils. Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, and Vincent Trocheck lead the way on offense, while Adam Fox continues to impress from the blue line.

In their last three games, the Rangers have outscored their opponents 14-7 and they have played a very strong stretch of hockey. I think New York has more momentum coming into this game than the Devils and I see them winning this one on the road.

Rangers vs Devils Over/Under analysis

There is going to be a ton of offensively gifted players in this game and when both teams are buzzing, they’re very exciting in the offensive zone.

The Devils are currently skating to the highest xGF/60 in the NHL, as they are expected to score 3.62 goals per game, along with a 56.64 xGF%. The Rangers on the other hand are currently at a 3.21 xGF/60 along with a 53.09 xGF%.

Vitek Vanecek and Igor Shesterkin have been two of the better goalies in the league this season, but in previous meetings, it hasn’t necessarily been about them, but more about the goal-scoring.

The Over happens to be 13-3-2 in the last 18 meetings in New Jersey between these two teams and I see that trend continuing today.
