It’s been 10 games since the Edmonton Oilers won in regulation, and they’re up against it tonight at Capital One Arena with the Washington Capitals playing dominant 5-on-5 hockey.

Oilers vs Capitals prediction

Oilers vs Capitals Best bet: Zach Hyman Over 0.5 points (-145)

The Edmonton Oilers had been missing veteran winger Zach Hyman, and he’s logged over 22 minutes in consecutive games since returning to the lineup.

Hyman picked up an assist in his 2025-26 debut, and he’s remained a mainstay on superstar Connor McDavid’s wing at 5-on-5 and with the man advantage.

As highlighted, it’s been a tough run for Edmonton, and the Washington Capitals are anything but a cakewalk matchup. The Caps have been beasts at 5-on-5 with a third-ranked CF% and second-ranked expected goals percentage, albeit those numbers go alongside a 26th-ranked 72.6 penalty-kill percentage.

Still, Edmonton showed up to top the Hurricanes on the road Saturday, and I like the Oilers to push back again tonight.

Hyman and McDavid have been on the ice for an elite 6.25 goals per 60 minutes, including an equally impressive 4.5 number at 5-on-5 over the past two years, so there’s no questioning the chemistry.

Oilers vs Capitals same-game parlay

Washington has been solid defensively with the second-fewest goals against per game (2.47) and has played to the Under in 50 of their last 93 games for +9.00 units and a 9% ROI, so I like a low-scoring game tonight.

And, despite the overall ho-hum results, Edmonton has been competitive and only lost by more than one goal twice across the past 15 games.
