We’ve got 13 games on the NHL betting slate tonight, including a cross-conference clash between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Nashville Predators.

Jake McCabe has been a shot-blocking warrior all season long, and with the Toronto struggling to get the puck out of their own zone, my Maple Leafs vs. Predators predictions expect him to be busy in the shot-blocking department once again.

Maple Leafs vs Predators prediction

Maple Leafs vs Predators best bet: Jake McCabe Over 2.5 blocked shots (+115)

The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost three of their last four games and hope to get back to their winning way tonight against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena.

The Leafs have been outshot and outplayed far too often this season. A big reason for this is the amount of time spent in their own zone. The Leafs rank 31st in DZ time, resulting in the fourth-most shot attempts allowed this season.

Enter Jake McCabe

He’s the Maple Leafs’ best defensive blue liner and starts his shifts primarily in his own zone, forcing him to be on the defensive far more than on the offensive. McCabe has shown a fearlessness when it comes to putting his body in front of pucks.

The Leafs defender leads the team with 86 blocks this season, and has gone Over tonight’s posted total of 2.5 blocks in eight of his last 11 outings, averaging three per contest over that stretch.

As for the Predators, they’ve been playing better hockey lately, averaging 3.4 goals and 27.5 shots per game over their last 10 outings.

If these possession trends continue, McCabe should face plenty of shot attempts, and he’s very capable of clearing his 2.5 blocked-shot total.

Maple Leafs vs Predators same-game parlay

Morgan Rielly has gone Over his 1.5 shot total in three straight and in 12 of his last 15 games, averaging 2.33 shots per game over that stretch.

For the final leg of my SGP, I’ll continue to back the Leafs' blue line and take Oliver Ekman-Larsson to record a point. He had three points in the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the season. He also has 1+ points in 14 of his last 20 outings.

Maple Leafs vs Predators SGP

  • Jake McCabe Over 2.5 blocked shots
  • Morgan Rielly Over 1.5 shots on goal
  • Oliver Ekman-Larsson Over 0.5 points
