Kings vs Coyotes Picks and Predictions: Royals Leave Desert Victorious

The Los Angeles Kings have been one of the more undervalued teams all year long while the Coyotes remain one of the worst, full stop. That leaves our NHL betting picks a pretty simple decision to back L.A. in the desert.

Wednesday’s nightcap will feature the playoff-hopeful Los Angeles Kings who head to the desert and take on the last-place Arizona Coyotes. The Kings are currently in a dog fight for the No. 8 spot in the West while the Yotes have just 13 points across 25 home games this season.

Can the Kings continue to be one of the better road teams in the West? Can the Coyotes build off their 3-1 win versus the Stars as +210 dogs? Find out in our free NHL picks and predictions for Kings vs. Coyotes.

Kings vs Coyotes odds

This odds widget represents the best odds available for each betting market from regulated sportsbooks.

This line has moved in favor of the home side as the Coyotes opened as +195 home dogs but have since moved 15 points to +180 on the ML with a total of 5.5 tilted to the Over.

These two teams met four days ago in Arizona with the Yotes closing as +160 dogs in a 5-3 loss. However, the Kings were on the second game of a back-to-back which is why there's a price difference.

Moneyline analysis

The Kings will look to take another two points off the Coyotes as the eighth-place team took care of Arizona, 5-3, four days ago.

The Kings had just beaten the Golden Knights the previous night before their meeting with the Yotes. The Kings were -175 favorites in that meeting and despite trailing by two goals midway through the second period, L.A. dominated the game from a metrics standpoint as Money Puck had the Kings winning this game 76.5% of the time.

With tonight’s ML price sitting at -215, we don’t think this price is too long.

The Kings have been a solid road team all season and have a goal differential of zero and the league’s seventh-best point percentage when traveling. That is in sharp contrast to the Coyotes who have the league’s worst point percentage at home and a minus-34 goal differential.

There isn’t a whole lot to like from the Yotes other than the price. Their 2.50 goals per game since January 1 is tied for the third-lowest mark in the league, the power play is scoring at 8% over that time and Karel Vejmelka has a 3.73 GAA over his last 15 starts dating back to January 1. Vejmelka was in net versus the Kings Saturday and allowed all five goals on 39 shots.

The Kings have been flying under the radar as one of the better shooting teams in the league and sit third in the league in shots per game at 35.6 per game. They managed 39 shots on net in the Saturday meeting and are averaging nearly 38 shots on net per game since the beginning of the year. Whoever is in net for the Yotes is likely going to see a ton of rubber.

Arizona is just bad across the board. In 5-on-5 metrics, they rank last in xgoal% and expected goals for and rank 31st in goal%, Corsi, Fenwick and xgoal differential.

It seems only the Clayton Keller line can generate any offense while the goaltending has fallen off the cliff. This team has no interest in climbing the standings and will more than likely finish with the worst record in hockey with Montreal back on track.

The Kings have been one of the most undervalued teams in hockey as they are +11.1 units on the season straight betting their moneyline. The 5-3 final might be a little misleading as the Kings dominated that game and should get No. 1 goalie Jonathan Quick between the pipes after Cal Petersen drew the start in the previous meeting.

We’re taking the favorites in regulation.

Prediction: Kings 3-way ML (-130)

Over/Under analysis

The Kings started the season as one of the best Under teams in hockey, but they've seen a ton of goals in their games of late and are 17-11 to the Over on the road this season.

Since the Christmas break, the Kings are seeing 6.44 total goals per game, are 13-8 to the Over and have hit the Over in six straight games heading into tonight.

The Kings have been firing a lot of pucks at the net but the goaltending has also aided the Over binge. Quick and Petersen have a combined GAA of 3.00 since Christmas and we’d be more inclined to hit tonight’s Over with Quick in net as the veteran has struggled more over the last two months.

Getting the Coyotes to flirt with two goals is important in this Over at 5.5. Keller has been the team’s lone bright spot offensively and he is rolling right now.

He’s averaging 1.30 points per game over the last 30 days and should drive this offense against sub-par goaltending. Arizona also comes into tonight’s meeting in decent form offensively and has scored at least three goals in four straight games.

With neither team sporting much resistance in net and both offenses in top form, hitting this Over is a high-confidence play. The last meeting closed with a total of 5.5 -125 to the Over and that game saw eight goals, 62 shots and seven power plays. Overs are hitting at nearly 60% over the last 30 days.

Prediction: Over 5.5 (-130)

Best bet

We like both teams to get on the board and if Arizona is scoring, it’s likely coming from Keller. He has an assist in eight of his last 10 games and is averaging 1.30 points per game over the last 30 days. He’s seeing a ton of ice time and has three points in two games versus the Kings this season.

With his point prop sitting at -175, we’re pivoting to his assist prop and hitting the Over 0.5 at +120. Neither L.A. goalie is giving us much confidence and we’re expecting Keller to drive the offense as he is tasked to do every night.

Pick: Clayton Keller Over 0.5 assists (+120)
