The 2025 season hasn’t gone according to plan for either the Minnesota Vikings or the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams are outside the playoff picture looking in when they clash on Sunday Night Football in Week 15.
Here are my insights into the opening odds, early movement and more as I deliver my early Vikings vs. Cowboys predictions and NFL picks for December 14.

Early SNF spread pick: Vikings +6.5
I’m a little surprised to see this spread open just shy of a touchdown for SNF.
The Dallas Cowboys do have a mini-bye after getting beaten by the Lions last Thursday, but the Cowboys’ recent wins over Philadelphia and Kansas City have lost a little shine.
The Minnesota Vikings got a breather against Washington this past weekend, especially after Jayden Daniels got hurt.
While you can discount that win over Washington, the Vikings have run a gauntlet of top-tier teams in recent weeks. They’ve taken on Seattle, Green Bay, Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, and the L.A. Chargers in the six contests prior to Week 14. Dallas is not on the same level as those past opponents, yet is drawing a similar spread.
Books that did open Dallas -6.5 are either pumping up the vig on the underdog or have already moved down to the key number of six points. I agree with that action and adjustment, as I feel there not that much separating these two teams in Week 15.
Early SNF total pick: Under 47.5
This total opened at 47.5 points, and juice on the Over is indicating a potential move to the key number of 48 points.
Minnesota’s offense has been hit and miss — mostly miss — of late, but the defense has kept things competitive. This aggressive pass rush is causing chaos at the line of scrimmage, generating the third-highest pressure rate in the NFL.
That blitz-happy attack and zone schemes in the secondary hasn’t allowed for big passing plays to develop, with Minnesota allowing the second-fewest explosive passing plays on defense.
Striking deep has been the calling card of the Cowboys offense this season. Dak Prescott got into a shootout with a injury-riddled Detroit secondary last Thursday but won’t have the same open looks against the Vikings.
As for the Minnesota offense, first-year starter J.J. McCarthy looked better under center versus the Commanders, but he’ll also feel the heat from the Cowboys front. Dallas is tops in pressure rate and leads the NFL in hurries and QB hits.
With downfield looks limited, we will see shorter passes and plenty of handoffs from these offenses on Sunday night. If you like the Under, wait for that move to 48 points before buying back the adjustment.
