The Minnesota Vikings are set to face off against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football.
Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores will dial up the pressure against a banged-up Bolts offensive line.
That said, my Vikings vs. Chargers player props expect Justin Herbert and Ladd McConkey to take advantage of that pass rush.
Here are my best NFL picks for October 23.
Vikings vs Chargers TNF props
Player | Pick | |
---|---|---|
Over 253.5 passing yards | -110 | |
Over 55.5 receiving yards | -110 | |
Over 54.5 rushing yards | -110 |
Justin Herbert Over 253.5 passing yards (-110)
With the Los Angeles Chargers' ground game in shambles, expect them to be extremely pass-heavy.
Pro Bowl quarterback Justin Herbert is surrounded by a trio of talented wide receivers, and rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden has emerged as another threat. Herbert leads the NFL with 1,913 passing yards, and he's fresh off a game against the Colts where he completed 37-of-55 passes for 420 yards.
On Thursday, the Bolts face a Minnesota Vikings defense that blitzes at the second-highest rate in the league and allowed 326 passing yards on just 23 pass attempts in Week 7.
Herbert boasted the fourth-best passing grade (87.4) against the blitz last year according to PFF, and he's fourth in that metric (83.9) entering Week 8.
Ladd McConkey Over 55.5 receiving yards (-110)
Ladd McConkey emerged as the Chargers' No. 1 WR as a rookie last year, racking up 106.8 receiving yards per game over his final eight regular-season and playoff contests.
L.A. has more mouths to feed in its receiver corps this season, which has resulted in a slight downtick in McConkey's production. However, this is a matchup where he'll likely see a ton of targets.
Although the Vikings do a good job at defending downfield passes, they can be carved up in the slot. Their blitz-happy defense tends to force opposing QBs to throw quick slants and shorter passes, which are areas where McConkey thrives.
McConkey had seven receptions for 100 yards against Miami in Week 6, then hauled in nine of a team-high 15 targets for 67 yards last week.
Jordan Mason Over 54.5 rushing yards (-110)
Minnesota has designated running back Aaron Jones to return from the IR. The veteran was limited in practice on Tuesday, and I don't see him making much of an impact on a short week.
That means one more game with Jordan Mason leading the backfield. Mason has rushed for more than 55 yards in three of his last four games — including a 116-yard performance against the Bengals in Week 3. He's faced some solid defenses over the last few weeks, and he'll get a much easier matchup against the Chargers.
The Bolts are 27th in the league in defensive rush EPA and have surrendered 139.8 rushing yards per game over their last five contests.
