Lost in all the talk of the big names in Super Bowl 56 are the role players and the players whose props are less likely to draw big attention, like Bengals' running back Samaje Perine.

If you were holding any Joe Mixon receiving props versus the Chiefs, then you’re well aware of Zac Taylor’s infatuation with throwing Perine out there on plenty of third downs. We’ve learned our lesson heading into Super Bowl and are searching the Super Bowl 56 player prop markets for some Samaje Perine receiving props.

Thankfully, Super Bowl odds are never short on options, so we're able to go back to Perine in the pass-catcher role, as we explain below.

Samaje Perine receptions pick

  • Perine Over 1.5 receptions (+100)

Pick made on February 5, 2022.

Cincinnati third-down back Samaje Perine saw his usual 25% of the snaps versus the Chiefs last Sunday and turned that into three catches and 43 yards on four targets. He rumbled for a 41-yard touchdown and saw more targets than starter Joe Mixon. He’s seen 34 targets over his last 15 games with a median of two targets. Perine won’t blow past his receiving total of 1.5 catches, but it’s pretty safe that the No. 2 back sees at least two targets.

Perine saw 17 snaps in the passing game last week, which was a postseason high. The Bengals ran a total of 14 plays on third down and Perine saw the only play in the two-minute drill in the first half, which resulted in that long catch and run. He doesn’t get all the work in the two-minute drill, but he does rotate in.

The Rams aren’t great at defending running backs in the passing game as they allow 5.0 receptions on 6.1 targets per game for just 37 yards per game on the season. Elijah Mithcell caught all three of his targets for 50 yards in the NFC Championship game, Leonard Fournette caught all nine of his targets for 56 yards in the Divisional Round while Eno Benjamin caught his two targets for 26 yards in the Wild Card round. In total, the Rams have allowed 16 receptions to opposing running backs on 21 targets so far in the playoffs.

Another situation where Perine could be seeing more action than usual is on second- and third-and-longs. Joe Burrow will likely face a ton of pressure and with how the Tennessee game went, third-and-long could be a common theme for this Cincinnati offense next Sunday. We could also see Taylor dial up more screen passes for both Perine and Mixon to offset the pressure, exactly like he did on second-and-long with Perine versus the Chiefs.

It’s not a widely available market just yet, but DraftKings is offering the Over 1.5 Perine receptions at even money. We also like the possibility of the Bengals chasing points which could see Perine rotate in a little more than usual.
