The meeting between the Saints and Panthers doesn’t sound like a great matchup on paper, but the home team is surprisingly in the playoff hunt and has shown clear improvement.

Can they get their sixth victory of the season?

Saints vs Panthers prediction

Saints vs Panthers Best bet: Panthers -5.5 (-105)

Not much was expected of either of these two teams this season but the Carolina Panthers and Dave Canales are a year further down the line than the New Orleans Saints and Kellen Moore, and it shows.

It’s been a long time since the Panthers were relevant, but they’ve legitimately been good lately, with their 16-13 win over the Packers being hugely impressive.

The defense has improved as the season has progressed, and after a slow start to his career, it really feels like Bryce Young might be developing into a good NFL quarterback. The stats aren’t excellent, but he’s managing games well, and the team is picking up wins.

The Panthers have now won in their previous four starts, and he’s been helped by Rico Dowdle, who's grabbed the RB1 job from Chuba Hubbard, after some incredible performances that have seen him third in the NFL’s rushing charts, with just three starts to his name.

The Saints rank fourth from bottom on offensive DVOA, and it’s already clear that Tyler Shough isn’t the answer long-term. The defense ranks 10th from last in DVOA, not excellent, but they’d at least be competitive if they had an NFL-caliber QB.

With just one win to their name, it’s not a surprise that the Saints are 1-7 ATS as an underdog, but given the Panthers are 4-0 ATS in conference games, and 6-3 overall, we have to back them to cover the spread.

Saints vs Panthers same-game parlay

In addition to our best bet, we’re going to back Bryce Young to have Under 171.5 passing yards. While his football IQ is visible for all to see, he’s not putting up big numbers, despite the team winning games.

He’s had 200+ yards just once this season and has had Under 171.5 passing yards in five of eight games.

Then we’re taking Rico Dowdle to have 100+ rushing yards. The former Cowboy has gone nuclear over the past six weeks, averaging 130.4 rushing yards per game and decimating teams single-handedly.

The streak won’t last forever but we have to ride it while it does, especially with the Saints allowing the ninth most rushing yards per game.

Saints vs Panthers SGP

  • Panthers -5.5
  • Bryce Young Under 171.5 passing yards
  • Rico Dowdle Over 89.5 rushing yards

Our big-ticket SGP: Coker shows up & shows out

Our lottery same-game parlay adds two further legs. Firstly, we’re doubling down on Dowdle and backing the 27-year old to find the endzone. He’s scored five times this season and managed to nab two TDs in that win over the Packers last week.

For the final leg we’re taking Jalen Coker to have Over 29.5 receiving yards. Tetairoa McMillan has a hamstring injury and is questionable to play and if he’s there, or not at 100%, then it opens things up for Coker.

Coker has only played three games this season, covering this line just once, but given how electric he was in training camp, we have to back him to cover a most total.

Saints vs Panthers SGP

  • Panthers -5.5
  • Bryce Young Under 171.5 passing yards
  • Rico Dowdle Over 89.5 rushing yards
  • Rico Dowdle anytime touchdown
  • Jalen Coker Over 29.5 receiving yards
