The premier matchup for the Week 1 day games features two NFC North rivals when the Detroit Lions travel to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers.

These two teams have loads of talented stars, and that gives us a ton of opportunities to look at the latest NFL player props.

Here are my top NFL picks for the Lions vs. Packers on Sunday, September 7.

Lions vs Packers props

Prop bet #1: David Montgomery Under 10.5 rushing attempts

Running back David Montgomery has been a little bit more of the run-heavy back for the Detroit Lions in the past over Jahmyr Gibbs, but he is getting older and saw way fewer carries late in the season last year.

Montgomery is now 28 years old and had fewer than 10 carries in five of the final 10 games last season, including the playoff game. It is also worth noting that the Lions are underdogs in this game and could be playing from behind.

In the three losses that the Lions had last season with Montgomery active, he had 11, 5, and 7 carries, respectively, in those games. I like the Green Bay Packers to win and think Montgomery will see less usage.

Prop bet #2: Jared Goff Over 32.5 passing attempts

In a similar manner to why I like Montgomery Under rush attempts, I like Jared Goff Over pass attempts since I believe they will be playing from behind. Last season, Goff had 32 or more attempts in each of the final eight games of the year.

In their three losses last season, Goff had 55, 59, and 40 pass attempts, respectively. He also had 41 pass attempts in the second game against the Packers last season. Despite the Packers being a good defense, they ranked in the bottom half of the league in pass attempts allowed.

A big reason for that is how good their run defense was. I see that run defense staying strong and forcing the Lions into passing situations often on Sunday.

Prop bet #3: Jahmyr Gibbs Over 22.5 receiving yards

This third play lines up perfectly with my other two plays. Jahmyr Gibbs is going to be on the field more in passing situations and is always a big target out of the backfield for Goff.

Detroit's superstar had 52 catches in each of his first two seasons in the NFL. However, last year, he was able to pick up many more yards on those catches, increasing his receiving yard total from 316 yards to 517 yards.

Gibbs had 30 or more receiving yards in each of the final six games last season. That includes having 30 receiving yards in the second game against the Packers. I love his chances of being a big target out of the backfield again on Sunday.
