Jaguars vs Colts Predictions - Early Picks & Odds for Week 17

The Colts are desperate for a win, but that seems far-fetched considering their injuries and that they're going up against a brick wall of a Jaguars team that just undressed the Broncos.

The Indianapolis Colts need a win and help to make the playoffs, and that means they must defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 17.

Doing so won’t be an easy task, given how well Liam Coen’s team is playing. Trevor Lawrence is having the best stretch of his career, and the Colts are reeling after a blowout loss to the Broncos on Monday night.

Read on for my early Jaguars vs. Colts predictions and NFL picks on Sunday, December 28.

Early Jaguars vs Colts spread pick: Jaguars -6.5

I have no clue how the Jacksonville Jaguars are laying less than a touchdown to the Indianapolis Colts, but it’s an absolute gift.

Then again, I shouldn’t be surprised. The oddsmakers still haven’t figured the Jaguars out, which is why they’ve covered in six straight games — winning three as outright underdogs.

That includes a 36-19 win over the Colts in Jacksonville, a game where Indianapolis was favored. In addition, the Jaguars have won five of those six games by at least two touchdowns.

Even with the game being in Indy, I’m not worried about laying nearly a touchdown. Philip Rivers looked solid against the 49ers, but the run game provided little help. It’ll be the same against the Jaguars and their elite front, which will also put serious pressure on the Colts’ QB.

And after watching Brock Purdy shred this injury-riddled Colts defense for five touchdowns, there’s little to make me think that Trevor Lawrence won’t do the same.

Early Jaguars vs Colts total pick: Over 47.5

San Francisco covered Monday's total against Indianapolis of 46.5 by itself.

The Jaguars probably won’t repeat that feat, but they’ll likely put up 30+. The Jags have cashed three of those in a row, with the Over sitting at 6-2 in eight games since the bye week.

It was that bye week where Coen somehow unlocked Lawrence, and he’s putting up career numbers ever since. The Jaguars have averaged 33 points a game since that break, and Lawrence has thrown 12 touchdowns in the past four games with zero interceptions.

That includes a 244-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Colts in Jacksonville. He and Travis Etienne had a field day, with the running back picking up 74 yards and two scores on the ground.

I expect the Colts to find scoring of their own. After all, they have less than a 1% chance of making the playoffs, but the chance still exists — provided the Texans lose on Saturday.

If that happens, I’m expecting Rivers and company to go down swinging, throwing the ball until the end. But, with the Jaguars dropping 34 on a good Denver defense in Week 16, I don’t see this game staying under 47 points in any way.
