Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.
Early MNF spread pick: Cowboys -3
The Dallas Cowboys are 2-0-1 at home and have averaged 41.3 points per game at AT&T Stadium, and I don't expect the Arizona Cardinals to keep pace on Monday Night Football.
Without doubt, the basement-dwelling Dallas defense is a huge concern, but I don’t see the Arizona offense putting enough points on the board. The Cards rank 28th in yards per play and 22nd in offensive DVOA.
Arizona has also faced the third-easiest schedule to date, while Dallas has faced the sixth hardest, per PFF.
So, with Dallas ranking third in yards and fifth in EPA per play, the Cowboys will have their way on offense against the Cards and cover the number.
Early MNF total pick: Over 54
With the expectation that Dallas will outscore its defensive shortcomings, I also lean to the Over.
Arizona has been mediocre on offense with a middling 21.9 points per game and ranking 18th in EPA per play. With Dallas allowing the second-most points per game and yards per play while ranking 31st in defensive DVOA, I’m expecting the Cards to also put points on the board.
Additionally, the bye week should help with the offensive game plan, and Arizona has scored 20 or more points in six of seven games, including four straight.
Returning to Dallas, the Over has hit in five consecutive Cowboys games and six of eight for the season. I expect more of the same on Monday Night Football.
