The Detroit Lions will host the Chicago Bears at Ford Field on Sunday in a key Week 2 NFC North showdown.

Both clubs lost their season openers, and my Bears vs. Lions predictions are calling for Detroit to cover the number in a high-scoring showdown.

Bears vs Lions predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Bears vs Lions spread pick: Lions -5.5

-110 at FanDuel

The Minnesota Vikings were able to put 21 fourth-quarter points on the board against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, and now Chicago hits the highway on a short week to face the multifaceted attack of the Detroit Lions.

While the Lions are definitely licking their own wounds following a Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Detroit went 7-2 at home last year and has covered the spread in 10 consecutive games following a loss.

Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams looked the part for the majority of Monday night, but I expect a bounce-back showing from the Detroit defense.

I like this -5.5 spread at FanDuel, especially with some books already listing it at -6, and it will most likely continue moving in that direction.

Early Bears vs Lions total pick: Over 47.5

-104 at FanDuel

FanDuel has dropped this total from the look-ahead 48.5, so this 47.5 number is right in the middle of the key range of 43-51.

The total was 47.5 in the last head-to-head matchup back in December. Detroit won 34-17 in that installment of the rivalry, and I forecast a similar final result Sunday.

As noted, the Bears had success on offense with QB Caleb Williams flashing poise against the Vikings, and the Lions also averaged an NFL-high 35.3 points per home game last season.

There are oodles of playmakers on offense for both clubs, so I anticipate defensive stops being few and far between.
