The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are not only on an eight-game winning streak; the Irish have won every one of those games by multiple scores.

Against a putrid Syracuse Orange offense, that should be the bare minimum to expect from Marcus Freeman & Co. on Senior Day in South Bend.

My Syracuse vs. Notre Dame predictions & college football picks ponder different ways to capitalize on an undoubted blowout at 3:30 ET on Saturday, November 22.

Syracuse vs Notre Dame prediction

Syracuse vs Notre Dame best bet: Under 50.5 (-105)

It would be understandable to focus entirely on Syracuse’s offense, with a Team Total available at 6.5 or 7.5. The Orange started the season with promise, losing in a shootout at Tennessee, beating UConn and then upsetting Clemson by 13 points despite being 17.5-point underdogs.

Much of those successes were tied directly to quarterback and Notre Dame transfer Steve Angeli, only for him to tear his Achilles in that victory at Clemson.

Nothing has gone right for Syracuse since then; the offense has been an outright liability in five of its next six games, faring modestly against only Georgia Tech’s imploding defense. The Orange have now turned to freshman walk-on Joseph Filardi at quarterback, an import from the lacrosse roster.

Rather than knock Filardi — 7-of-21 for 78 yards and one touchdown in two games — simply recognize this is how dire things have gotten for Syracuse.

Notre Dame should cruise to a blowout. The Irish defense should not give up a score. But when cruising to a blowout on Senior Day, just how hard will Marcus Freeman press the proverbial gas?

Freeman is more likely to simply take the default scores, which could be as many as 49 points, rather than prolong the game.

The College Football Playoff committee isn’t likely to view 38–0 much differently than 49–0 — though getting to 38 would require an Irish field goal, a tall task this season, and one more reason this Under makes sense.

Syracuse vs Notre Dame same-game parlay

That hook on the spread is a worry, but this is another approach to betting Syracuse’s Team Total Under, available at 6.5 or 7.5, depending on your sportsbook.

If the Orange fail to score, then the Irish have a wide range of reasonable outputs that would cash this same-game parlay all on their own.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
