Navy vs Notre Dame predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Navy vs Notre Dame spread pick: Notre Dame -25.5

-105 at FanDuel

The Navy Midshipmen are coming off their first loss of the season last week on the road against the North Texas Mean Green. That was the first time all season they were not double-digit favorites, let alone the betting underdog. That easy schedule came back to bite them in their first true road test.

After averaging over 35 points per game going into last week, Navy was held to only 17 points and turned the ball over three times against a middle-of-the-road defense. Now they must face one of the best defenses in the country in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Fighting Irish lost their first two games of the season against playoff contenders Miami and Texas A&M, but they have taken care of business since then. They have won six straight games by an average of 24 points.

This is a huge spread, but the Irish are going to be able to contain the Navy run game and keep them off the scoreboard for the most part. On the other end, Notre Dame will have no problem finding the end zone and can run it up.

Early Navy vs Notre Dame total pick: Under 55.5

-110 at FanDuel

While the Midshipmen have put up some big scores this season, those have been against some very bad defenses. They only scored 17 points last week against a mediocre defense in their first game of the season where they were not big favorites.

The Fighting Irish have held four of their last five opponents to 13 points or less, with a ranked USC team being the only outlier. They held two opponents to seven points each. They have one of the best rushing defenses in the country, allowing only 89.6 yards per game.

With Navy being extremely one-dimensional and going against the strength of the Irish defense, I just do not see them reaching more than 13 points in this game. While it will likely be a blowout and Notre Dame will score a lot, they can’t hit this total themselves.

Notre Dame has hit the Under in each of their last four games, and Navy just hit the Under in their lone game this season without being massive favorites. This will likely be a 37-10 type score and stay below this relatively high line.
