Can the Miami Hurricanes follow the lead of Nigel Tufnel and turn it up to 11?
(Congrats to everyone who had the O0.5 on "Spinal Tap" references.)
Miami went 10-2 in the 2025 regular season, finishing 6-2 in the ACC and clearing a 9.5-win total for the second straight year. The Hurricanes have won exactly 10 regular-season games in back-to-back seasons under Mario Cristobal, and the market has responded by raising the 2026 total to 10.5, offering a pick’em line that asks whether Miami can finally push past the 10-win plateau it has hit in consecutive seasons.
Here’s a look at the recent history of Miami win totals, along with predictions on whether the Hurricanes will surpass or fall short of their 2026 number of 10.5:

Despite losing quarterback Carson Beck to the NFL, the Hurricanes may have upgraded with Duke transfer Darian Mensah. Leading rusher Mark Fletcher (1,192 yards) and leading receiver Malachi Toney (1,211 yards) both return and both are preseason All-Americans.
Miami’s schedule is also advantageous. The Hurricanes do not play SMU or Louisville, the two teams who beat them last year, during the regular season. They also host other ACC contenders in Pittsburgh, Florida State, and Virginia Tech.
I’m projecting Miami to be at least a TD favorite in 11 of their 12 games (exception: at Notre Dame). Can they avoid an upset losses like the past two years?
Rob Paul
The U is as close to being back as it’s ever been, and it helps that Miami is No. 106 in SOS (.487). Even with losing nine draft picks to the NFL, Mario Cristobal reloaded by essentially poaching Darian Mensah from Duke to be the crown jewel of his fifth-ranked transfer portal class.
With Mensah in the fold, Shannon Dawson’s offense could be terrifying if the offensive line comes together. Malachi Toney is one of the five best players in college football, and Mark Fletcher Jr. is among the nation’s top running backs. But five-star freshman tackle Jackson Cantwell’s development will be key.
The Hurricanes should have one of the scariest defenses in the country, too, with pass rusher Damon Wilson II (Missouri) joining a group led by the best defensive tackle duo in college football (Ahmad Moten Sr. and Justin Scott) and one of the nation’s top secondaries.
Colby Marchio
It is nearly the exact same team that reached the National Championship a season ago. Their offensive line took a hit after losing four starters, but they brought in 6'8", 315 pound true freshman Jackson Cantwell, who should help anchor the trenches from day one. The defense returns plenty of talent and should once again be one of the best units in the country.
It is either the over or backing them to win the ACC, and I think taking the Hurricanes to win the conference is the smarter play, barring a loss at Notre Dame or at Clemson. There is also a world where they beat Clemson on the road, then get caught in a letdown spot the following week against Florida State.

Plenty of stardust on the team starting with Malachi Toney, one of the best players in the country.
I think the offense will surpass the 31 points a game they scored last year and the defense will hit their numbers: under 100 yds rushing per game, and under two touchdowns per game. I hate the schedule playing two ACC games on Friday on the road. Those games are always an ambush. Two other tough games to deal with are on the road at Clemson and at Notre Dame.
If they split those, they win 11.

🔑 Key takeaways
- A slight Under lean overall: Miami has gone Under its win total eight times in 16 graded seasons, against five Overs and three pushes.
- Five consecutive Unders from 2018-23: Miami missed its win total in every graded season from 2018 through 2023, a stretch that covered multiple coaching staffs and a range of totals from 7.5 to 9.5. The market consistently overestimated the Hurricanes during this period.
- Back-to-back Overs in 2024-25 snapped the run: Miami cleared its 9.5-win total in consecutive seasons, the program’s first multi-year Over streak since at least 2009. The 2026 total of 10.5 reflects the market’s acknowledgment of that momentum while raising the bar to a level Miami has never reached in this dataset.
How Miami win totals are priced
This is new territory for the Hurricanes, who have never been handed a double-digit regular season win total. And what's more, oddsmakers have them as a -110 option to beat it.
Do you have the stomach for a bet that requires Miami to lose no more than once before playoff time? As things stand now, the Hurricanes would almost certainly be an underdog for their Nov. 7 road date with Notre Dame; assuming that's an L, Over bettors have officially run out of leeway.
There's also not much value in playing to a lower number, with the O9.5 at a stunning -290 (carrying an implied probability of 74.36 percent).
You won't find a more profitable route into a dominant Miami season on the conference wins line, with an unbeaten ACC run trading at -180. The U7.5 wins is set at +150.
Miami is a sizzling 7-1 ATS in eight games vs. ranked opponents over the past two seasons.
