The defending champs are coming off by far the best season in school history. I’m done doubting what head coach Curt Cignetti can accomplish. He’ll have Indiana back in the playoffs for a third straight season. With that being said, my ratings lean under 10.5 wins.

Although Curt Cignetti just pulled off the best coaching job in college football history, and somehow retained both coordinators (Mike Shanahan and Bryant Haines), Indiana’s schedule will make it tough to push for more than 10 wins. The Hoosiers’ SOS is 11th-hardest in the country (0.606), and they have to replace Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza, plus seven other draft picks.
While returnees like Charlie Becker and Carter Smith, and transfer additions like Nick Marsh (Michigan State) and Joe Brunner (Wisconsin), are some of the best in the country, a lot is riding on QB Josh Hoover. Hoover’s aggressive style is fun, but he’s also turnover-prone, having accounted for 51 turnover-worthy plays in three years as TCU’s starter.
