Illinois head coach Bret Bielema is doing a great job here. Illinois’ 19 combined wins the last two years are a school-record. However, I’ve downgraded their power rating this year and the markets thinks they will take a step back. This has been bet down from 7.5 wins.

Bret Bielema has completely raised the floor at Illinois and done one of the best coaching jobs in the country. Before Bielema took over, the Fighting Illini hadn’t won 7+ games in the regular season since 2007. In Bielema’s five seasons at the helm, they’ve won 8+ three times. And with the addition of QB Katin Houser (East Carolina) and a manageable schedule, Illinois should fight for at least seven wins yet again.
Houser has been one of the best G6 QBs the past two seasons and joins an offense that bolstered its trenches in the portal and returns its top three rushers and two of its top three receivers. Defensively, new coordinator Bobby Hauck inherits a secondary with a pair of stars (Xavier Scott, Matthew Bailey) and a few underrated portal players (Darrell Prater being the best among them).

Bret Bielema has done tremendous work during his tenure at Illinois, going 37-26 over five seasons and reaching milestones that no other coach in program history has accomplished.
With Ohio State being their toughest road trip and Oregon being their toughest home opponent, the Fighting Illini have a very manageable schedule in front of them. That is a massive advantage for Bielema and his boys.
With the talent they brought in this offseason, I think Illinois should be able to reach at least eight wins in 2026. They may not replicate last season's nine-win campaign, but I still like them to go over this total.
