It was only Week 1 of the college football season, and we’ve already seen quite the shakeup in the Heisman Trophy odds.
After rough starts to the season, Arch Manning and Cade Klubnik saw their Heisman stock drop, while Garrett Nussmeier, LaNorris Sellers, and Carson Beck emerged as the big winners.
We don't have the same head-to-head Heisman matchups as we did in Week 1, but that means some sleeper contenders can make some noise in our college football picks.

Heisman Trophy odds: Matchups to watch
Oklahoma State vs. Oregon
The Oregon Ducks are one of the most talented teams in the country. However, their biggest question mark was at quarterback with transfer sophomore Dante Moore taking over. But Moore got his Ducks career off to a solid start.
Moore jumped into the Top 10 of the Heisman odds after going 18-for-23 for 213 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in a 59-13 win over FCS Montana State.
Now, he’ll get to follow that up with a matchup against an Oklahoma State Cowboys team that may have already quit on the season. The Ducks are about four-touchdown favorites here, so Moore could definitely do some stat padding to improve those numbers.
FIU vs. Penn State
Drew Allar and the Penn State Nittany Lions are one of the only Heisman favorites to have an actual FBS matchup this week, even if it is as 42-point home favorites against FIU.
But this game is important for other reasons. Typical Heisman winners use these games to pad their stats and put up big numbers. I wonder if Allar and Penn State are just more concerned with getting the win and moving on.
Allar was efficient in Week 1 against Nevada, going 22-for-26 for 217 yards and a touchdown. But it certainly wasn’t eye-popping by any means. If Allar has another quiet day, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him drop out of the Top 10 in the Heisman odds.
Michigan vs. Oklahoma
This is the game all Heisman bettors need to be tuned into. My guy, and preseason Heisman pick John Mateer, jumped from +2500 to +1700 after he went 30-for-37 for 392 yards and four total touchdowns in a 35-3 win over FCS Illinois State.
That’s the kind of line you want to see from a Heisman hopeful in these games, and now, Mateer gets to go on the big stage in a matchup against Michigan.
The Michigan Wolverines were underwhelming in a 34-17 win over New Mexico last week and gave up an eyebrow-raising amount of passing yards to the Lobos.
If Mateer has another big game leading to an Oklahoma Sooners victory, you won’t see anything close to +1700 again. Jump on the Boomer Sooner bandwagon while you can.
Heisman darkhorse: Lagging Behind
People were expecting a big jump for the Florida Gators in 2025, thanks in large part to the play of QB DJ Lagway. And it looks like we're getting it.
Lagway looked very impressive in the second half of last season, essentially saving Billy Napier's job, and he got this season off on the right foot.
The sophomore signal caller was uber-efficient in a 55-0 season-opening win over FCS LIU. Lagway went 15-for-18 for 120 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
We’ll get a good chance to see if he can build on that against in-state rival South Florida. The Bulls are coming off an impressive upset of Boise State, but if Lagway and the Gators put on a show, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in the Top 10 of the Heisman odds heading into Week 3.
DJ Lagway’s current Heisman odds: +2000
