🤬 Oklahoma vs Michigan: Oklahoma -5.5
Who's hatin': The People
Why I'm hatin': I already had the Oklahoma Sooners -4.5 before your body could even start the hangover process on Saturday after witnessing one of the most pathetic displays of triumph.
For those unaware, the Michigan Wolverines were 28-point favorites in Week 1 against Western Michigan, a not-so-respectable MAC team. They lost that ballgame. For those who want to trust the Big Ten's clock, you are an utter clown. Nothing on the field, or what you see on your television screens, is real if that is the end-all, be-all of clocks.
The second-chance win alone was enough to get me to pull the trigger on the Sooners, but what followed after the walk-off 47-yard touchdown is ruining the integrity of college sports.
The Wolverine faithful, all lubricated up, stormed the field in celebration of their walk-off victory over little ol' unranked Western Michigan.
Where has the game that I fell in love with gone? We used to be honorable sports fans.
If an underdog beats a top-five, top-10, top-15, hell, I'll be generous and give you all 25 teams, THEN, then you are allowed to storm. It is blasphemy to even consider stepping foot onto the field after nearly losing as a near-30-point favorite.
My good friend and Michigan die-hard, Jon Metler, who does tremendous work here at Covers, has the Michigan fanbase's back. He claims that, due to it being a night game, these students were too drunk with their undeveloped frontal lobes to know any better, so they get a pass.
I would HATE to be the one who has to inform Mr. Metler that college binge drinking has been going on since the dawn of time. The kickoff time does not correlate. If it was a noon kickoff, those kids would have been liquored up before sunrise.
For those who have been keeping up with my work over the last three-plus years, one, you mean the world to me. Secondly, you know I live by a code. And that code states, if you storm, you must be faded the following week.
If that was your quote-unquote "Super Bowl," I hope you enjoyed it, because the target on your back just got bigger.
Which is why the Sooners are the play this weekend.
If you are seeing -5.5 and wondering if it is still a go, it is. Play it up to -6.5.
I am expecting the Wolverines to have some of their issues from last week a bit more polished and cleaned up, but they are in for a long ballgame, especially if this Oklahoma defense brings its A-game.
This will be the game where we really find out who Bryce Underwood is. The consensus among fans at the moment is that he is not worth the hype. The Michigan quarterback threw for 170 yards, completing 12 of 22 passes, with one touchdown and an interception.
Against one of the most complete defenses in the country, it will be interesting to see how he performs following the biggest throw of his career.
😡 Ohio State vs Texas: Over 49.5
Who's hatin: Arch Manning doubters
Why I'm hatin: Now, I am not backing the Texas Longhorns in this massive matchup, but taking the points will force me to believe in Arch Manning in the rematch from last season, when he threw for 170 yards, completing 17 of 30 passes, with one touchdown and an interception in the 14-7 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
I am not a full-on Manning backer, but I am certainly not a hater. However, is it now or never for this kid to show us why he had so much hype coming into college, aside from his last name? Despite the interception last week, Manning looked solid. He has a ton of extremely talented weapons around him to get his revenge on Matt Patricia and the Ohio State defense.
The reason I am not fully backing Texas here is mainly that the Longhorns allowed nearly 350 yards of total offense to Texas State last week. The Bobcats are a good team, but that is not going to fly against a far superior team like Ohio State. Texas State also converted 8 of 14 third downs. If the Bobcats had not turned the ball over three times, they could have racked up far more than seven points.
The Buckeyes played at a much faster tempo than they did a year ago as they steamrolled Ball State, a far more inferior team compared to Texas State. If they plan to play fast against this Texas defense, there will likely be points.
😡 Iowa State vs Iowa: Iowa -13.5
Who's hatin: Matt Campbell, for ruining this great rivalry
Why I'm hatin: Great number, great spot. How can we not back the Iowa Hawkeyes at home against, as they would say, "little brother?"
With the departure of former Iowa State Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell to Penn State, a ton of top talent also departed Ames, Iowa. This is not the same program it was under Campbell. However, this is still the same program run by Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz.
With Iowa State winning three of the last four Cy-Hawk matchups, this could be a game where they may have to pull the Hawkeyes off the field. This rivalry means everything to both sides, but after losing the last two meetings by a combined 4 points, I expect Iowa to finally take care of business at home.
Give me the Hawkeyes to win by two touchdowns.
