Eastern Michigan vs Wisconsin Picks and Predictions: Badgers Offense Rolls In Covering Lofty Spread

Wisconsin had an awful season opener, scoring just six points in a loss to Big Ten rival Penn State. The Badgers try to get on track in Week 2 as huge college football betting chalk over Eastern Michigan — and we don't see this one being remotely close.

The Wisconsin Badgers didn't start their college season on the right foot, losing to Big Ten rival Penn State last week, and the Badgers plan to take their anger out on Eastern Michigan in Week 2. Will the Eagles have enough to hang with the Badgers?

Wisconsin was projected to be the top team out of the Big Ten West but following a lackluster offensive display against Penn State, can it get the offense rolling as a massive college football betting favorite against an inferior Eastern Michigan squad?

Eastern Michigan vs Wisconsin predictions

Wisconsin could not be more upset with its performance in Week 1. Quarterback Graham Mertz did not impress, throwing for 185 yards with two interceptions — albeit against a pesky Penn State defense — and for that potent run attack that the Badgers are known for, they only averaged three yards per carry.

Eastern Michigan started its season in the right direction, easily defeating a lowly opponent in FCS St. Francis. While the 35-15 score looked dominant, it seems to be fool's gold heading into Week 2. The combination of Ben Bryant and Preston Hutchinson at quarterback was anything but impressive, as they combined for just 189 passing yards and one interception. On the defensive end, the Eagles allowed 187 yards receiving and 105 yards rushing.

When analyzing this game, we see that St. Francis actually produced offense against Eastern Michigan (throwing for more yards than Wisconsin did last week), which leads us to expect the Badger offense to roll against Eastern Michigan.

There is no way Wisconsin repeats its Week 1 offensive numbers... against a team from the MAC, a conference the Badgers have had their way with in the past. In 2019, Wisconsin played two MAC teams, in Central Michigan and Kent State, and the results were scary: Wisconsin beat Central Michigan 61-0 and Kent State 48-0 — as more than 30 point favorites in both matchups.

The Badgers are an angry group in Week 2. Expect them to play with tons of aggression against Eastern Michigan, establishing that lethal rushing attack and giving Mertz a better opportunity to show off his arm against a weak secondary.

Eastern Michigan is catching Wisconsin at the wrong time. The Badgers should roll the Eagles to help them regroup for the rest of the season.

This game will not be close by any means. Wisconsin should be firing on all cylinders Saturday, as its current team total is 39 points — after scoring six points last week, the books expect Wisconsin to score a ton of points this week.

Currently, our Covers Consensus shows a 58 percent lean towards the Under on the total. This tells us the general perception is that after last week, people are making a knee-jerk reaction to favor another low-scoring game — we will not be on that side of the betting market.

The line tells me it will be a high-scoring game — for Wisconsin to win by nearly four touchdowns means they will score at least 30 — and more likely approach 40 — points in this game.

On the Eastern Michigan side, the Eagles won't lay a goose egg on the scoreboard either: As long as they can put up 10-14 points, this total will go Over — and we will be more than happy to cash it in!
