Two teams coming off dominant Week 1 victories meet in an intriguing Week 2 clash, as the Boston College Eagles head to East Lansing to face the Michigan State Spartans.

Boston College lit up the scoreboard in a 66-10 rout of Fordham behind a relentless offensive attack, while Michigan State leaned on a stingy defense to shut down Western Michigan 23-6.

Sportsbooks are siding with defense in this one, installing the Spartans as 4.5-point home favorites in the latest college football odds.

Boston College vs Michigan State prediction

Boston College vs Michigan State best bet: Under 45.5 points (-110)

This is an ACC vs. Big Ten rematch from a year ago when the Eagles rallied at home to beat the Spartans 23-19, with Thomas Castellanos hitting Lewis Bond for a 42-yard TD strike with 88 seconds to play.

But Boston College was hemmed up for most of the game, throwing for only 140 yards and rushing for 152 on 43 totes, a lowly 3.5 average.

Dylan Lonergan is new at pivot for BC, and he looked good throwing for four TD’s against Fordham, but, it’s Michigan State’s performance that seems likely more replicable.

They held Western Michigan to 188 yards passing, and just 29 yards on the ground.

The Spartans’ ground game was good, running for 186 yards and two scores, but Aidan Chiles threw for just 155 and a TD. Michigan State’s defense should muck this one up.

Boston College vs Michigan State same-game parlay

Life as a lead back has been good for Makhi Frazier: he lit up WMU with 103 yards rushing and a TD, both career firsts for the sophomore.

Aidan Chiles has now gone three straight games throwing for under 200 yards, and he’s topped the 200-yard passing plateau just twice in his last nine starts.

He did throw for 241 yards against the Eagles last year, but I expect them to lean more on the ground game for this one.

  • Under 45.5 points
  • Makhi Frazier Anytime TD
  • Aidan Chiles Under 208.5 pass yards

Our deep-ball SGP: Spartans Get the Best of Eagles

Lewis Bond was on fire against Fordham, grabbing 11 balls for 138 yards. He’s gone for better than 56 yards receiving in three of his last four, and he did light up MSU for six grabs for 102 yards and a score last year.

I think Dylan Lonergan crashes a bit down to earth Saturday. WMU was shut out of the TD pass category last week, and Castellanos’ shocking TD pass winner against the Spartans last year was the only TD pass for the game.

  • Under 45.5 points
  • Makhi Frazier Anytime TD
  • Aidan Chiles Under 208.5 pass yards
  • Lewis Bond Over 55.5 receiving yards
  • Dylan Lonergan Under 1.5 TD passes

Michigan State (-184 at FanDuel)

The revenge factor looms large and so does home field advantage. BC has won each of its last four September games vs unranked teams, but I see that streak coming to an end in a close one Saturday.

Boston College vs Michigan State spread prediction

Boston College +4.5 (-118 at FanDuel)

A one-game sample size is hard to go off of, but Lonergan might be a more dynamic QB for the Eagles.

If the Alabama transfer can carry that into East Lansing, then an offense that ranked outside the Top 10 in scoring in the ACC might just be primed to make a leap.

The Spartans showed they’re at least capable of being Top 10 against the run and pass this season, like they were a year ago.

If this one is close, though, I’m inclined to take Lonergan over Chiles to make enough plays to keep it close, and cover with that nice cushion of points.
