Alperen Sengun and the Houston Rockets will be in Phoenix on Thursday as the Rockets take on Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns, and we have you covered with our best bet from this matchup using the latest NBA odds

The Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets met less than a week ago in Houston, as the Rockets pulled off the upset and defeated the Suns by a score of 114-110 as a 2.5-point home underdog.

With the Rockets recently defeating the Suns, you'd think we might be rolling with Fred VanVleet and the Rockets on Thursday, but we have a different opinion here.

Let's take a closer look at the odds and see what my free NBA picks are for Rockets vs. Suns on Thursday, February 29.

Rockets vs Suns odds

Rockets vs Suns predictions

When it comes to this matchup between the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets, I think this is a spot where you could get blinded by a box score without digging deeper into the matchup. Yes, the Rockets defeated the Suns less than a week ago, so why on Earth would we want to lay 8.5 points with the Suns?

Well, when these two teams met last Friday, I was locked into this game because I've been watching Alperen Sengun for Most Improved Player, and I have a nice stake in the Suns to win the NBA Finals. The Rockets may have won the game, but the Suns were blowing them out early on. The Rockets really don't have an offense that can go bucket for bucket with the Suns, and it showed.

It wasn't until Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore entered the game and had some highlight reel plays that the momentum started to swing for the Rockets. Then, right before the first half ended, Fred VanVleet put on a shooting clinic, knocking down multiple three-pointers.

The Rockets won the game, but I think the Suns just got caught being a little flat coming out of the All-Star break and on the second night of a back-to-back. The reality is, that the Rockets don't have an offense that can keep pace with the Suns, and if the Suns didn't shoot 3 for 17 from beyond the arc in the first half, this game could've had a much different outcome. The Suns were consistently missing three-pointers that would've sucked the life out of the Rockets.

Not only do I not think the Rockets will struggle to compete with the Suns offensively, but the gap in offensive talent could become even wider in the rematch. Jalen Green is questionable with an illness for the Rockets, and there's a chance that either Eric Gordon or Bradley Beal, or both, return on Thursday night. The Suns will already have a big upgrade at the center position compared to last Friday as Jusuf Nurkic is probable to play.

The loss to the Rockets last Friday by the Suns was an embarrassing one and a game they needed to stay out of the Play-In Tournament in the Western Conference. With the Rockets' comeback fresh in their mind, if the Suns get a chance in the rematch, I think they will run up the score.

I think the Suns should be closer to a 10-point favorite over the Rockets, which means we can price the spread of Suns -8.5 at -125, but it is available at FanDuel at -110.

My best bet: Suns -8.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

Rockets vs Suns same-game parlay

Phoenix Suns -8.5

Devin Booker Over 27.5 points

Jusuf Nurkic Over 11.5 points

When the Suns and Rockets met last Friday, the Suns were ice-cold shooting from beyond the arc, and Devin Booker was no exception. Booker didn't knock down a single three-pointer and was 7 for 24 from the field. The craziest part about all of this is that he still managed to score 25 points.

The Rockets weren't able to stop Booker from getting to his spots; he just wasn't making the shots. For that reason, I'm taking the Over on Booker's points prop at 27.5, and if the Suns are going to blow out the Rockets on Thursday, we will need Booker to shoot better than 7 of 24 from the field.

I'm also rolling with Jusuf Nurkic Over on his points prop for our SGP because I don't know the number of times I yelled at my television last Friday when Drew Eubanks had a wide-open shot around the rim thanks to his teammates and either missed it, panicked, or got blocked. Nurkic should be the beneficiary of his teammates creating for him on Thursday, and at 11.5, I like the Over here.

Rockets vs Suns spread and Over/Under analysis

The Suns opened as an 8-point favorite at DraftKings and are now trading as an 8.5-point favorite against the Rockets. This is a consensus number in the market as we are seeing Suns -8.5 across the board. Expect this line to hold steady until we get more clarification regarding the injury status of Green and Beal.

The total opened at FanDuel at 233.5, and that is the number it is currently trading at. Although the total is still on the opening line, that doesn't mean we haven't seen any movement on the number. The total has moved up to 234 and down as low as 232.5, but it keeps making its way back to 233.5 at FanDuel.

Make sure to shop around before hitting the button on the total because we are seeing some 231.5 out there in the market. When betting on a game total, a two-point difference is a big deal in the long run.
