If the Detroit Pistons thought their week was hectic after a trip to Mexico City, tonight they face a Memphis Grizzlies team that’s been dealing with another Ja Morant storm.
Morant served a one-game ban in last night’s loss to the Toronto Raptors in the wake of his outburst on Friday, and my Pistons vs. Grizzlies predictions don’t see this being quite the track meet that the total line suggests — even with Ja in action.

Pistons vs Grizzlies best bet: Under 236.5 (-110)
The current Memphis Grizzlies roster certainly won’t be confused with the peak ‘Grit and Grind’ era in Memphis, but it may also be time to pump the brakes on the idea that Ja Morant & Co. can be an offensive juggernaut instead.
Sure, the Grizz finished second in the NBA with 121.7 points per game last season, but it’s been a bumpy road since then. They rank in the bottom half of the league so far this year in points per game and field goal percentage, and the same holds true for the Detroit Pistons, who are also shooting the fourth-fewest 3-pointers per game.
That leads me to the Under on a line that feels a little bloated. It’s been a winning ticket in Memphis’ last three outings, and it’s 6-4 in the past 10 meetings between these teams — including a 109-103 Grizzlies win in April. Plus, the Pistons haven’t given up more than 116 points in any of their six contests this season.
As well as Cade Cunningham is playing, Memphis can turn to Jaylen Wells and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for that matchup. Likewise, Detroit has Ausar Thompson lined up to make Morant work for his points.
With playmakers Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. missing time, the hosts are searching for consistent scoring next to Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. I have my doubts about this turning into a shootout, particularly with schedule fatigue becoming a factor.
Pistons vs Grizzlies same-game parlay
Morant has a chance to let his play be the story here, and he’s gone past this number in his last four outings. While his points prop feels like a riskier play, there’s a clearer path to seven dimes, and this game is set up for some Ja magic after the scrutiny of the past few days.
Thompson has filled the box score in the opening weeks, and that includes solid rebounding totals, despite sharing the frontcourt with Jalen Duren. He’s had at least seven boards in three of his last four contests, with a double-digit tally in two of those matchups.
