The Detroit Pistons will look to get their 2025-26 season off to a strong start as they visit the Chicago Bulls tonight.

Detroit took a huge step forward last year and should expect more big things this season, which is why I expect a convincing cover in my Pistons vs. Bulls predictions.

Let’s look at how to approach this season opener in my free NBA picks for Wednesday, October 22.

Pistons vs Bulls prediction

Pistons vs Bulls best bet: Pistons -3 (-105)

The Detroit Pistons won just 14 games in the 2023-24 season, and while many pundits expected improvement last year, few could have predicted the massive strides they made.

The Pistons won 44 games and grabbed the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, as their young core came together — seemingly overnight — under head coach JB Bickerstaff.

The key to Detroit’s success was Cade Cunningham, who averaged 26.1 points and 9.1 assists per game. But this was far from a one-person team, as seven different players who played in at least 30 games averaged 10 PPG or more.

This is a deep roster where many players get minutes, and it is resilient against injuries. Jaden Ivey (17.6 PPG) only played 30 games last year, but the Pistons moved on without him — so I’m not worried that he’s out tonight as he recovers from right knee surgery.

The Chicago Bulls are without both Coby White and Zach Collins, shortening a roster that already doesn’t match Detroit’s talent. The Pistons took three of four from the Bulls last year, and I’m backing them to cover again tonight.

Pistons vs Bulls same-game parlay

Along with taking the Pistons to win, I’m throwing a bet on the Under, as the absences on both sides will bring scoring down just enough to make that the smart play at this high total. That should still leave enough room for Cunningham to get to his scoring total, as he’ll be the focal point of the Detroit offense tonight.

Cunningham will have full control of the offense for the Pistons, and that gives him a good chance of getting to double-digit assists against a Bulls team that allowed 119.4 PPG last year.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
