NBA Picks and Predictions for January 22

Luka Doncic is absolutely assaulting box scores after a slow start (for him, at least), averaging 27/12/11 in the month of January.

Even with two games postponed due to COVID restrictions brings to us nine NBA games for hungry bettors to sink their teeth into, and the slate is stuffed full of betting value, including one of our favorite player props going.

Sportsbooks have seemingly adjusted to Kyle Lowry’s recent rebounding prowess. But is that adjustment enough for us to stay away as the Toronto Raptors visit the Miami Heat?

We break down the basketball odds for that and more with our best free NBA picks and predictions for Friday, January 22.

NBA Picks for Today

Toronto Raptors vs Miami Heat

So, sportsbooks have finally adjusted the Kyle Lowry rebounding prop, with his total being posted at 6.5 at multiple books. But is that number high enough as the Toronto Raptors prepare to face the Miami Heat for the second time in as many games.

Lowry has been arguably the Raptors' best rebounder since the team has made a decided effort to use a smaller lineup. Lowry averages 6.5 rebounds for the season, but that number jumps to 8.3 over the Raptors' last seven games, which includes him pulling down 10 boards in that last game against Miami.

Add in the fact that while the number has been boosted by one full rebound, we are now getting it at +110 and that value is too tempting to pass up. Bet on Lowry to keep cleaning up the glass in this matchup.

PREDICTION: Kyle Lowry Over 6.5 Rebounds (+110)

Dallas Mavericks vs San Antonio Spurs

It looks like the NBA Southwest will be a battle all season long and two of the contenders for the division crown will meet for the first time this season when the Dallas Mavericks visit the San Antonio Spurs.

The Mavericks sit at 7-7 after halting a three-game losing streak with a 124-112 win over the Indiana Pacers, while the Spurs sit at 8-7 following a 121-99 beatdown handed to them by the Golden State Warriors. Now, San Antonio will have its hands full with Luka Doncic.

One of the betting favorites to win the NBA MVP Award, Doncic is averaging 26.1 points, 10.1 rebounds and 9.5 assists this season and dominated the Spurs a year ago. In four games against San Antonio, Doncic averaged 32.5 points, 10.5 dimes and 9.5 boards. But the prop we like most for Doncic in this matchup is his rebounding.

Doncic’s rebounding total is sitting at 9.5, and the fact he averages 10.1 boards per game is a good start, but the matchup with the Spurs makes it even better. No one takes more shots per game than the Spurs, who rank 24th in shooting and rebounding percentage. Doncic will dominate the glass in this one.

PREDICTION: Luka Doncic Over 9.5 Rebounds (-105)

New York Knicks vs Sacramento Kings

One of the NBA’s best defenses faces off against arguably its worst when the New York Knicks visit the Sacramento Kings

The Knicks and their elite D have won three straight games, but will be playing in the second half of a back-to-back after taking down the Golden State Warriors 119-104 last night. And while the Knicks are pretty much the opposite of a potent offense, the Kings' defense is so bad that it might not matter.

Sacramento ranks dead last in the NBA in defensive rating, defensive efficiency and scoring defense, allowing 123 points per game. That could mean good things for Knicks’ second-year man RJ Barrett.

The former No. 3 overall draft pick is starting to get into a groove this season, putting up 21.8 points per game, while shooting 51.4 percent from the field over his last five games. With defense being an optional mentality with the Kings, Barrett’s point total of 17.5 gives us some really nice value.

PREDICTION: RJ Barrett Over 17.5 Points (-115)
