The Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees begin a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

Things haven’t exactly gone according to plan for the White Sox this season, but they have shown some signs of life lately with three straight victories over the weekend against the division-rival Detroit Tigers.

The Yankees scored a high-profile series win on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers, taking two of three games.

Can the White Sox stay hot against the Bronx Bombers, or will the Yankees hang the Pale Hose out to dry? We’ll discuss in our MLB picks and predictions for White Sox vs. Yankees on June 6.

White Sox vs Yankees odds

White Sox vs Yankees predictions

The White Sox did take three straight games against the Detroit Tigers, outscoring the division rivals by an 11-3 margin. While that’s all well and good, the ChiSox still have a dismal minus-47 run differential, and they have a lot of work to do just to get even.

Chicago is rather middling on offense, posting 262 runs to rank No. 17 in the majors. The White Sox have a .240 batting average, ranking No. 21 in the leagues, which is actually just ahead of the Yankees at .236 and No. 22 overall.

The big difference between these teams is in the pitching department, however. New York has a stellar 3.69 ERA with a 1.23 team WHIP. The Yankees are No. 6 in the majors in ERA. Chicago is a dismal No. 26, posting a 4.74 ERA, while checking in with a 1.37 WHIP.

The White Sox turn to RHP Lucas Giolito, and he has been a different pitcher on the road. At home, he has a solid 3-1 record and a 2.70 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP. But Giolito is a dismal 1-3 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.64 WHIP away from the South Side of Chicago.

The good news for Chicago is that New York counters with RHP Clarke Schmidt, who is 2-5 with a 5.01 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 55 2/3 IP across 12 starts overall. It’s a wonder the boobirds in the bleachers in Yankee Stadium haven’t lost their minds yet with this guy.

As a result of the pitching matchup, with Giolito’s struggles on the road, and Schmidt’s struggles altogether, the best bet in this series opener is going high on the total.

White Sox vs Yankees moneyline analysis

The White Sox offense has been pretty impressive lately, going for 59 total runs across the past 12 games, or nearly five runs per contest. Of course, that’s primarily against the lowly Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers, two of the worst offensive clubs in the majors. Facing the Yankees is a total different animal.

Chicago hasn’t fared very well on the road this season, going 6-16 in the past 22 games outside of the Windy City, and we highlighted Giolito’s struggles away from home.

The White Sox haven’t handled the twig very well against right-handed starting pitchers, either, going 1-5 in the past six on the road vs. RHPs, while dropping eight straight on the road against winning teams.

The Yankees are 6-1 in the past seven against righties, while cashing in 64 of the past 90 tries against AL Central foes, a winning percentage of .711.

Add to the fact New York has been stacking wins, going 8-2 in the past 10 after a victory, and the Yankees are clearly the play. However, with Schmidt’s struggles, and a rather heavy moneyline, it’s advised to play the run line for a better value, but go lightly.

White Sox vs Yankees Over/Under analysis

The White Sox cashed the Under in the three-game series over the weekend against the Detroit Tigers, but prior to that the Over had hit in seven in a row.

The Over has cashed in four straight games on the road for the White Sox, too, and the Over has connected in Giolito’s past two starts, too.

For the Yankees, it’s been all Over all the time of late. The total has gone high in five of the past seven games overall, while cashing in 10 of the past 13 games at Yankee Stadium.

New York has also cashed the Over at a 5-1 clip in the past six games after a scheduled day off, while going 7-2 in the past nine series openers and 7-3 in the past 10 games at home against a right-handed starting pitcher.

Starting pitchers

Lucas Giolito (4-4, 4.08 ERA): The 28-year-old right-hander has really struggled with keeping the ball inside the yard, allowing at least one home run in six straight starts, while serving up seven homers in 33 2/3 innings in six starts in the month of May. Overall, he has allowed 11 homers in just 68 1/3 innings this season, while also issuing nine walks in his past two outings in just 8 2/3 frames.

Clarke Schmidt (2-5, 5.01 ERA): The 27-year-old Georgia native was sharp last time out in Seattle, allowing just three hits in 5 2/3 innings, and he has not allowed a homer in the past four starts. However, he has still allowed five or more hits in six of his past seven starts, and issued at least two walks in five of his six outings in May.
