The Minnesota Twins travel to Comerica Park tonight to take on the Detroit Tigers.
After selling off key pieces at the trade deadline, the Twins are left with a depleted roster. With that in mind, our Twins vs. Tigers predictions is to fade Minnesota on the road.
Here are my best free MLB picks for this AL Central clash on Tuesday, August 5.
Twins vs Tigers prediction
My Twins vs Tigers best bet: Tigers moneyline (-140 at bet365)
The Minnesota Twins have an OPS of just .687 on the road and will likely be even worse in the final two months of the season.
Byron Buxton, who leads the team in total bases, is currently sidelined by a rib injury, while the guys who ranked third, fourth, fifth, and sixth on the club in that category were all jettisoned at the trade deadline.
Their already shaky bullpen was also gutted with multiple relievers, including closer Jhoan Duran, traded away. A fire sale like that is a strong indication that this team isn't trying to compete, so it's no surprise that they've dropped five of their last six games.
They also traded away right-hander Chris Paddack, who will start against them today. Paddack is inconsistent, but he's been sharp in his last two starts, including his debut with the Detroit Tigers last week, when he held Arizona to three hits and one run through six innings.
He's a better option than Twins righty Zebby Matthews, who has a 5.67 ERA with an OBA of .284 through seven starts.
The big advantage will be at the dish, where Detroit has a lot more power than Minnesota, which is slugging just .353 over the last 15 days.

Twins vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)
Tigers moneyline
Zebby Matthews 5+ strikeouts
Spencer Torkelson 1+ hitter strikeouts
Chris Paddack Under 1.5 walks
While Matthews gets hit hard when opponents make contact, he generally does a good job of missing bats. He has 42 punchouts through 33 1/3 innings and is in the top 15th percentile in strikeout rate. Detroit strikes out at the third-highest rate in the majors (23.5%), with that number ballooning to 26% over the last four weeks.
If Matthews goes Over his strikeouts prop, there's a good chance that Spencer Torkelson will be one of his victims. The first baseman has struck out at least once in 20 of his last 24 games. He also has poor platoon splits, batting .219 with a 27.2% strikeout rate against righties.
Paddack is in the top 10th percentile in walk rate and consistently displays good control, walking fewer than 1.5 batters in eight of his last nine starts.
