Red Sox vs Astros Prediction, Picks & Odds — Tuesday, August 12

Dustin May wasn't sharp in his Red Sox debut, and it won't get any easier against the Astros. We're fading the right-hander and hitting the Over on his earned runs prop tonight in Houston.

The Boston Red Sox visit the Houston Astros at Daikin Park again tonight after a nail-biter 7-6 loss on Monday evening.

Dustin May hasn’t had a lot of success this season, and my Red Sox vs Astros predictions expect Houston’s lineup to do damage against the trade deadline acquisition.

Red Sox vs Astros prediction

Red Sox vs Astros best bet: Dustin May Over 2.5 earned runs (+100 at BetMGM)

The Boston Red Sox acquired Dustin May from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the deadline, adding to their rotation in the hopes of a playoff push. While Boston has been playing a lot better and has a realistic shot at a Wild Card, May isn’t having a banner year.

In his first start with the Red Sox, the right-hander allowed three earned runs to the Kansas City Royals. He’s cashed the Over in earned runs allowed in three of his last four outings, previously giving up four earned runs to Boston while still a member of the Dodgers.

He’s only cashed the Under in earned runs twice in his previous eight appearances.

May’s 4.93 ERA is already unsightly, and he’s been substantially worse on the road, posting a 7.09 mark. The Houston Astros are hitting .269 against him across 26 at-bats, and his struggles will continue in H-Town.

Red Sox vs Astros same-game parlay (SGP)

Dustin May Over 2.5 earned runs

Over 8.5

Christian Walker Over 1.5 total bases

This contest has the recipe to be high-scoring. May isn’t the most reliable hurler, and the Astros aren’t turning to their best starter, either.

Spencer Arighetti is 1-2 in three starts with a 7.43 ERA, allowing five earned runs in each of his last two outings. Boston’s lineup is swinging it well at the moment, too.

Christian Walker is on a roll, cashing the Over in total bases in back-to-back games. He was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI on Monday and finished 3-for-4 against the New York Yankees with a pair of doubles the day before.

He’s 4-for-10 lifetime versus May.
