The Texas Rangers (57-53) face the Seattle Mariners (58-52) on Friday night as the two teams jockey for position in the AL West standings.

Seattle was active at the deadline, fortifying a lineup that has been dormant against right-handed pitching in past weeks.

See why my Rangers vs. Mariners predictions and MLB picks for Friday, August 1, targets one of the players acquired at the deadline, Eugenio Suarez, to have a successful day at the dish.

Rangers vs Mariners prediction

My Rangers vs Mariners best bet: Eugenio Suarez Over 1.5 hits, runs, & RBI (-105 at DraftKings)

Jack Leiter takes the bump for the Texas Rangers, and he’s actually been pretty serviceable lately, allowing no more than two earned runs in five of his last six starts.

However, I’m not yet ready to fully commit as his 4.78 xERA and 4.76 xFIP both indicate regression from his 4.09 ERA.

The former Vanderbilt product allows too many free passes (11.4% walk rate) and gets hit hard (10th percentile in barrel rate and 14th percentile in average exit velocity).

His biggest flaw is his severe reverse splits (.274/.361/.448 career slash line against right-handed hitters).

Enter Eugenio Suarez.

The slugging third baseman was reunited with the Seattle Mariners at the deadline after bopping 36 home runs and posting a 143 wRC+ with Arizona.

Suarez is poised to capitalize on this matchup thanks to his reverse splits (151 wRC+ against RHP).

The slugger’s main weakness this season has been against curveballs, but Leiter hardly throws his (8.8%), and it gets lit up when he does (.750 SLG). Suarez hits all of Leiter’s other offerings well.

Once things make it to the bullpen, Texas hasn’t been otherworldly in relief lately (4.20 xFIP since July 1).

Mariners moneyline

Cal Raleigh Over 1.5 hits, runs, & RBI

Julio Rodriguez Over 1.5 hits, runs, & RBI

Eugenio Suarez Over 1.5 hits, runs, & RBI

Seattle has to fancy its chances with ace Logan Gilbert and his 1.94 home ERA, and the success of the lineup relies primarily on these three hitters.

Cal Raleigh has been a man possessed this season (167 wRC+) and has found success against Leiter in the past, going 3-for-8 with two home runs and five RBIs.

Julio Rodriguez will be licking his chops against Leiter, exposing the hurler’s reverse splits by going 6-for-11 with two home runs and a 1.636 OPS in prior meetings.
