MLB Player Props & Best Bets Today for May 29: Me & Julio Down by the Ballpark

Maybe we can put our concerns about Julio Rodriguez's superstar status to bed. He might always be a little streaky, but when he's on...there's almost no one better. We've got him clearing his total bases prop again tonight.

It’s about as light a day as you’ll see on the diamond with just five games on the schedule for baseball bettors to enjoy. But that doesn’t mean there still isn’t a treasure trove of value to be found in the MLB player props markets.

I sort through the MLB odds and bring you my three favorites for today, which include Zack Wheeler racking up the punch outs as Julio Rodriguez continues to swing a hot stick on Thursday, May 29.

Best MLB player props today

  • Phillies Wheeler 8+ Ks (+162)
  • Blue Jays Guerrero o0.5 RBI (+165)
  • Mariners Rodriguez o1.5 TB (+150)

MLB props for May 29

Zack Wheeler 8+ Strikeouts (+162 at FanDuel)

Zack Wheeler is dealing right now. The Philadelphia Phillies ace has thrown 22 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings. He’s allowed just three hits in each of his last three starts and has struck out 22 batters during those three starts.

And I like him to keep racking up the Ks when he takes the ball in Game 2 of today’s doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves.

Wheeler has been one of baseball’s best starters for years, and 2025 is no different. His current run has dropped his expected ERA to 2.14, which ranks in the 99th percentile among MLB pitchers.

And even though Wheeler’s worst start of the season came against the Braves back on April 8, he has been tying Braves hitters in knots for years. Current Atlanta batters have combined for a .216 xBA and a .392 xSLG over a whopping 305 plate appearances vs. Wheeler. He also has a strikeout rate of nearly 30% against this lineup. I don’t expect that to change tonight.

Wheeler has a strikeout prop sitting at 6.5, a number he’s eclipsed in all but two starts this season. So, it’s no wonder the Over is juiced. Instead, give me his alternate strikeouts of 8+ at +162, a number he's hit in seven of his 11 starts this season.

The Phillies' ace punched out seven Braves in just 5 1/3 innings back on April 8, and you can make the case he had his worst stuff all season. So, what are those unreliable Braves’ bats going to do when he’s spinning it like this?

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+165 at bet365)

Yes, the Toronto Blue Jays are coming off a series win against the Texas Rangers. However, they scored just four runs total in said series.

So, if the Jays want to start building toward something this season, they have to start hitting with more consistency, particularly with runners on base. And Vladimir Guerrero Jr. needs to lead by example.

Tonight’s matchup with the Athletics is the perfect place to start. The A’s have the third-worst team ERA and the fourth-worst opponent batting average.

They hand the ball to Jacob Lopez for Thursday night’s opener. The 27-year-old left-hander is making just his third start of the season and fifth of his career.

His first start of the season was rocky, lasting just 2 2/3 innings after surrendering three runs on six hits and four walks against the Texas Rangers. Now, he did spin a gem in his last start against the Philadelphia Phillies, but if Vladdy is patient, he should get the chance to knock some runners in.

Guerrero is locked in, ranking in the 97th percentile in expected batting average, 87th in average exit velocity, 89th in hard-hit rate, and 96th in bat speed.

He hits the ball hard and often. He is also crushing lefties to the tune of a .333 average and a .961 OPS.

Lopez has also had issues with his command, with a big 12.1% walk rate. I’m betting the Jays — and Vladdy in particular — come through in the clutch. And this is a good price for Guerrero to drive one in.

Julio Rodriguez Over 1.5 total bases (+150 at bet365)

It feels like Julio Rodriguez is busting out of a slump that’s lasted for God knows how long.

The Seattle Mariners star outfielder has been great in May, hitting .281 with an .806 OPS, six home runs, and 18 RBI over 23 games, and I like him to continue that strong play as the M’s close out a series with the Washington Nationals.

For starters, Rodriguez is at his best. He’s got six hits, including a home run, over his last three games. His current run now has him in the 74th percentile in expected batting average and the 76th percentile in expected slugging.

I also like his matchup with Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore. The left-hander is having a solid season, but when Gore isn’t missing bats, he’s getting hit hard.

Gore ranks in the 16th percentile or worse in average exit velocity, barrel rate, and hard-hit percentage.

Rodriguez also has more pop when facing lefties this season, with an .825 OPS and nearly an equal amount of extra-base hits in about a third of the at-bats when compared to facing right-handers.

I’m betting J-Rod gets into one for extra bases tonight, going Over 1.5 total bases, which he has done in 14 of his last 25 games and four of his last six overall.
