MLB props for May 31
Seiya Suzuki Over 1.5 total bases (+126 at Caesars)
Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki is on a solid run of late. He picked up a hit in Chicago’s 6-2 win over Cincinnati in the opener of their series Friday.
That gives him hits in 10 straight games and 13 of the last 14. During this run, he's picked up two total bases in six of his previous nine games and has plus-money odds to go Over 1.5 total bases on Saturday.
It’s a favorable matchup for him, too, as he faces lefty Nick Lodolo. Though it's a small sample, Suzuki is hitting .455 off him in 11 at-bats, with three doubles and three RBI. On the year, Suzuki is hitting an impressive .375 against lefties, and with 10 of his 18 hits going for extra bases.
Brendan Donovan Over 1.5 total bases (+112 at Caesars)
Even in an 11-1 thumping, the hitting beat goes on for St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan.
He picked up a hit in Friday’s loss, giving him hits in five straight games as he sits seventh in the majors with a .333 average. He’s picked up at least two total bases in three of his last four.
Donovan will be in tough on Saturday, as he faces off with veteran lefty Patrick Corbin, but Corbin hasn’t exactly been shutting things down, allowing at least three earned runs in three straight starts. He's also been taken yard in four straight appearances.
Lefties are actually hitting Corbin better on the year, and while Donovan’s lefty vs. lefty split isn’t great (.258 average), he’s tearing it up on the road, batting .356. Another worthy splash for two total bases at plus-money odds.
Robbie Ray Over 6.5 strikeouts (-137 at Caesars)
Veteran lefty Robbie Ray gets the call Saturday for the San Francisco Giants in the middle game of their three-game set against the Marlins.
At 7-0, Ray currently leads the majors in wins, with a nice 2.56 ERA that’s inside the Top 15. He’s got a gettable 6.5-strikeout line against the Marlins, and he’s been good at hitting that lucky seven punchout level.
Ray has gone Over his total in three straight starts and seven of his last nine. Miami is in the bottom half of the league in team strikeouts, fanning an average of 8.31 times per game.
It’s been nine games since a starter has registered at least seven strikeouts against the Marlins, but I like Ray’s chances on Saturday as he’s 17th in the majors in strikeouts per nine innings (9.8).
