Pirates vs Brewers prediction

Pirates vs Brewers best bet: Brewers -1.5 (+100 at BetMGM)

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff returned this year after multiple injuries kept him sidelined since 2023. Remarkably, he has returned in the same form he left off in.

Through six starts, Woodruff is 4-0 with a 2.29 ERA and 0.65 WHIP. The question now is whether this tremendous stretch of pitching is sustainable.

His underlying metrics suggest it is. If he officially qualified, Woodruff would rank near the top of the league in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), strikeout rate, and walk rate.

That success is likely to continue against the Pittsburgh Pirates, a team against whom he is 7-2 over the past 13 meetings with a dominant 2.54 ERA and 0.91 WHIP.

Meanwhile, Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller ranks in the bottom half of the league in xERA, xBA, average exit velocity, and hard-hit rate.

Not only does the clear pitching advantage go to the home team, but the hitting edge does as well. The Brewers outrank Pittsburgh by a substantial margin in runs per game, hits per game, slugging percentage, and OPS.

Contreras boasts a .415 xBA, a .798 expected slugging percentage (xSLG) and a .524 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) through 20 plate appearances against Keller. Meanwhile, Turang has scored six runs over his past five games.
