The Chicago Cubs took the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles in a snoozer, grinding out a 1-0 victory on their home field.

My Orioles vs. Cubs predictions see the home team winning more convincingly this time around, taking advantage of a disappointing team that just sold several players at the deadline. Let’s break it all down with my August 2 MLB picks.

Orioles vs Cubs prediction

My Orioles vs Cubs best bet: Cubs -1.5 (+100 at bet365)

The Chicago Cubs have plenty of clear edges over the Baltimore Orioles, starting with the offenses.

Baltimore ranks 13th in runs per game, 19th in average, and 23rd in on-base percentage. The Orioles own very mediocre numbers that could and should dip further down the stretch after trading bats like Ryan O’Hearn, Ramon Laureano, and Cedric Mullins at the trade deadline.

It’ll be difficult for their watered-down lineup to muster up much production against Matthew Boyd. He's pitching very well this season and enters play in top form, sporting a 1.80 ERA and 2.62 FIP over the last month.

Meanwhile, the Cubs have a great matchup to do real damage. Tomoyuki Sugano owns a 4.38 ERA on the season and has struggled to limit power. He owns an 11.3% barrel rate and has given up 21 homers on the year over 109 innings of work. That equates to 1.73 homers per nine innings.

Chicago sits tied for first in runs per game, third in average, and third in homers. They're as likely as any team to exploit Sugano’s struggles.

Orioles vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Cubs -1.5

Kyle Tucker Over 1.5 total bases

Michael Busch Over 1.5 total bases

Tucker has averaged 1.8 bases per game this season but produced just 0.8 per over the last 10 games. He's drastically underperformed based on the norm. Sugano has allowed a .270 average and .209 ISO to left-handed bats, so this is a matchup Tucker’s power should return.

Busch is sporting a .295 average and .411 wOBA against right-handed pitching, both of which rank first on this loaded Cubs squad. Busch has hit .267 against Sugano’s primary pitch (splitter) and owns a .315 ISO against his second-most-used pitch (fastball), making him a very tough out.
