The New York Yankees will look to repeat last night when they face off against the Washington Nationals.

We’re heading to the prop market again this evening with a pitcher on the mound for the Nats who could have a difficult matchup on his hands.

My Nationals vs. Yankees predictions break it down here as I bring you my MLB picks when the two teams meet Monday, August 26.

Nationals vs Yankees prediction

Nationals vs Yankees best betPaul Goldschmidt Over 1.5 bases (+110)

Naming the five highest batting averages in the league would be quite a revealing exercise for many. It’s filled with some interesting names like Alex Bregman, Shea Langeliers, and others. Leading the way among them? Paul Goldschmidt.

Batting average can be misleading, but it’s a good starting point for our best bet of Goldy over 1.5 bases this evening, as he’ll face a southpaw in Washington Nationals pitcher MacKenzie Gore.

Goldschmidt’s career production against Gore should actually be higher than it’s been. He’s slugged .429, batted .289, and had a wOBA of .353.

All solid numbers for eight career plate appearances, but the expected batting averages highlight exactly how good those at-bats have been: a .429 expected batting average and a .521 expected slugging percentage.

Much higher than the actual results and a clear signal that he’s due for positive regression.

Combine those elements with the particulars surrounding Gore and you have a strong position. Elements like a barrel rate and hard-hit rate in the bottom 30% of baseball and heavy fastball usage — a pitch Goldschmidt has routinely ranked among the league’s best against.

I’d play this to even money.

Nationals vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

It’s difficult to ignore the contrasts between these two teams' outlooks for the rest of the season. Coupled with momentum and a slight pitching mismatch, that’s enough for me to add the New York Yankees moneyline to my same-game parlay.

I finished it with James Wood to get a hit. He’s improved his chase rate considerably over the last two months, which will likely force Yankees hurler Luis Gil to throw competitive fastballs in the zone — a pitch Wood thrives against.
