The New York Mets will look for rookie sensation Nolan McLean to lead them to victory again tonight when they visit the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

My Mets vs. Tigers predictions believe will continue to deliver the goods for his squad. Read on below to see my full analysis of tonight’s game with my free MLB picks for Tuesday, September 2.

Mets vs Tigers prediction

Mets vs Tigers best bet: Mets moneyline (-130)

After floundering through early August, the New York Mets got a shot in the arm when Nolan McLean was brought up from the minors on August 16.

Since then, he’s made three starts, picking up wins in each game and allowing only two total runs — most recently giving up just four hits in eight shutout innings against the Philadelphia Phillies last week.

McLean has a wide range of pitches he can throw, but the one making headlines is his sweeper, which boasts an outrageously high spin rate that produces the kind of movement difficult for even MLB hitters to make solid contact.

It’s going to be hard for any team to figure him out their first time seeing him, and that includes the Detroit Tigers.

It’s not as though the Tigers can’t touch the rookie: they’ve averaged 4.81 runs per game and have a deep enough lineup to test McLean. However, their propensity for strikeouts (8.81 per game) suggests McLean will be a tough matchup.

Combined with the rejuvenated Mets offense, this could be a tough night for Detroit.

Mets vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

These teams put up a combined 18 runs on Monday, and the Mets' offense in particular is clicking, averaging 9.5 runs per game over their last four outings.

I’m taking the Over, as well as New York slugger Pete Alonso to pick up an RBI. I’m also taking Nolan McLean to continue the dominant start to his career and come in Over his total of 5.5 strikeouts.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
