The Philadelphia Phillies welcome the New York Mets for Game 2 of their weekend NL East showdown.

For Saturday, June 21, my Mets vs. Phillies predictions back the red-hot Phillies to keep their momentum going against their division rivals

Let's get into my best MLB picks for tonight's matchup.

Mets vs Phillies prediction

My Mets vs Phillies best bet: Phillies moneyline (-120 at DraftKings)

The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets were locked atop the NL East heading into their three-game set this weekend. However, they are two teams headed in opposite directions as of late.

Philadelphia used a six-run seventh inning on Friday night for its third straight win and eighth victory in its last nine games.

On the flip side, it was the seventh straight loss for New York as the Mets' struggles continued. They were swept at home by the Rays, lost all three in Atlanta, and dropped the opener in Philadelphia last night.

The Phillies promoted prospect Mick Abel earlier this season, and he's looked like he belongs through four starts. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA (5 ER in 20.1 IP) and 1.03 WHIP, and he's held the opposition to one run or fewer in three of his four starts thus far.

The Mets’ bats have gone cold recently, with seven runs in their last four games, and Abel won't make it easy on them on Saturday night.

It’ll be veteran righthander Griffin Canning on the mound for the Mets. His numbers look pretty good on the surface, going 6-3 with a 3.80 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 14 starts, but he's got hit hard in the last few weeks. Canning has allowed 16 ER across 21.1 IP in his last five starts and is coming off a six-run outing against the Rays.

Finally, the Phillies are 25-13 at home and 37-18 against right-handed starters (9-12 vs. LHP) while the Mets are 18-21 on the road and 36-23 vs. RHP (9-8 vs. LHP).

Mets vs Phillies same-game parlay (SGP)

Phillies moneyline

Alec Bohm 1+ singles

Mick Abel Under 4.5 Strikeouts

Alec Bohm came through with an RBI single on Friday night to extend his hitting streak to six games. He's now had a hit — including a single — in 10 of his last 11 games. On the season, singles have accounted for 64 of Bohm's 83 hits.

Abel came hot out of the gate with nine strikeouts against the Pirates in his first MLB start, but has a total of eight punchouts in his last three starts. I'll close out this same-game parlay with a contrarian leg given the fact that the Mets strike out just 7.83 times per game this season.
