The San Diego Padres host the New York Mets at Petco Park in San Diego, this afternoon to conclude a four-game set of what has been a fun series to watch — and this is shaping up to be another good one.

After losing the first two games, the Mets won last night behind Jacob deGrom but are still massive MLB betting underdogs with Marcus Stroman on the mound.

Will New York find a way to win this game before heading to Baltimore? Continue reading our Mets vs. Padres picks and predictions for Sunday, June 6 to find out.

Starting pitchers

Marcus Stroman (4-4, 2.66 ERA): Stroman has pitched well for the Mets this season and he comes into this meeting with the Padres having allowed three or fewer earned runs in six of his last seven starts. The righty has also flashed some decent strikeout stuff in 2021, as his 4.0 K/BB ratio is the highest mark since he posted that same number as a rookie with the Blue Jays in 2014.

Chris Paddack (2-4, 4.24 ERA): Paddack looked like a future ace when he burst onto the scene in 2019... but he has not been very good since then as he had a 4.73 ERA last season and is currently at 4.24 this year. However, the righty had been pitching extremely well before giving up five earned in a loss to the Cubs on May 31. He had allowed three earned runs in his previous 19 innings of work before that lousy performance, so he’ll look to channel that again.

Moneyline pick

Don’t let Saturday’s late-night meeting with the Mets fool you: the Padres are on fire at home right now. While San Diego was unable to ultimately come away with a win against Jacob deGrom — something that is nearly impossible at the moment — the team has a much better chance of getting right back on track in this one.

Stroman has been great for New York this season, but he has been a little more beatable on the road. The righty is 2-1 with a 2.01 ERA at Citi Field this year but he is 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA away from Queens. Those numbers certainly aren’t bad but he has given up 10 earned runs over his last three road starts.

Also, San Diego’s lineup has a collective .323 batting average against Stroman, so it’s entirely possible the team will be able to get a few rallies going here.

On the other hand, Paddack had been red hot before struggling against the Cubs in his last start. Look for him to lock back in and give San Diego a good shot at pickup up a third win in this four-game set. The Mets are averaging just three runs per game in this series and Paddack should be able to keep them at that number, if not fewer.

PREDICTION: Padres (-150)

Over/Under pick

Two of the first three games in this series went Under the total, and these teams pit another set of rock-solid starters against one another.

While San Diego is a good bet to win this game, that doesn’t mean Stroman needs to get completely shelled. The Padres can score three or four runs on New York’s starter and that might be enough for them to win the game.

And it isn’t hard to envision Paddack giving the Mets lineup some trouble here. New York has struggled offensively this season, which has a lot to do with the team just not being healthy.

With that said, the Under seems like the right play.

PREDICTION: Under 7.5 (-120)
